A Bad Daddy
“How is she doing? I’m worried about her.” Concern was written all over Brenda’s face.
Cristina was her niece. After taking care of Cristina for all these years, she had already treated Cristina
as if she was her own daughter.
Theresa whispered, “Eugene should still be inside the room with her.”
Frozen for a moment, Brenda soon came back to her sense and discard all thoughts of checking on
Cristina in person. She coughed. “She’s very much her own man.”
Inside the room, Cristina heard all their conversation. She was rendered speechless. Eugene and she
merely lay in the bed together last night. They didn’t do anything else. Why did Brenda speak as if they
had had sex…
Casting a glance at the man beside her, Cristina uttered with exasperation, “Forget it. Let’s get up for
breakfast!”
She didn’t want them to further misunderstand it.
Theresa then went to the boys’ room to wake them up for breakfast. Once she entered, she saw
Charlie dozing with Ben, both fast asleep. The bed was clearly too small for Charlie. It seemed rather
cramped after he squeezed himself onto it. Yet their serene sleeping faces melted her heart.
With her eyes riveted on them, she didn’t ruin this heart-warming scene. Standing there quietly for a
while, she drew close to them. “Get up. Breakfast’s ready.”
When Ben heard her words, he opened his eyes and sat up, looking at her. “Mommy.”
She beamed. “So glad to see your dad?”
His eyes were glinting with joy.
With a sigh in her heart, she relocated her gaze to Charlie lying next to the boy. She must admit that
she was jealous of him. He didn’t spend much with Ben, but Ben admired him deeply. Perhaps,
fatherhood was an immortal flame burning forever warmth for his children, strong and silent.
Theresa said to the boy again, “Rouse your father. It’s time for breakfast.”
After that, she went to prepare clothes for the two little boys. She first handed Ben the outfit, and then
pulled Leonard up from his bed. Seemingly having pressed the snooze button, he was reluctant to be
up. At this tie, he still didn’t spot Charlie. With a bright smile, he planted a smacker on her cheek.
“Mommy.”
“Yes?” A grin spread over Theresa’s face as she helped him take off his pajamas.
“Love you!”
Her smile broadened after she heard that. “I love you too. Here, put your clothes on. Did you sleep well
last night?”
“Yes, I did.” Leonard then got dressed by himself as he was told. Just then, his eyes fell on the bed of
Ben. He sulked as he saw Charlie, “Why is he here?”
A look of disgust came over his face.
At once, she explained, “Well… He’s here to see Ben. What’s wrong?”
The boy frowned. “He’s a bad daddy.”
To his eyes, Charlie was a villain of bad faith.
His angry look made her helpless. “He’s still
Leonard snorted, “I don’t need such a daddy.”
At this moment, Charlie was already awake. He sat up from the bed and stared at them. Swiftly,
Leonard had dressed up. Noticing his gaze, he swiveled his head away.
His rude manner provoked Charlie. But with Theresa here, he took an almost superhuman effort to
contain his anger.
She voiced in a soft tone, “We’re going out first. Get up and dress quickly for Ben.”
After saying that, she left the room with Leonard.
