You Weren’t There with Me
Noticing the doubtful expression on Jimmy’s face, Theresa inquired, “What’s the matter? You seem to
be very interested in my situation. But aren’t you busy with work? I would appreciate it if you spend the
time working. hard for my family’s company.”
Jimmy grew incensed at how nonchalant Theresa was behaving. “Theresa, you got me into your
company on purpose, right? It must be part of your plot!”
As she calmly placed her cup on the desk, Theresa nodded. “Yes, you are totally right. Then what are
you going
to do about it?” Whenever Jimmy got angry, she felt satisfied. She couldn’t bear to see any smug look
on his face. She even believed that the joy of her life would be witnessing his misfortune.
“How dare you!” He rose from his seat, glaring at her. In his eyes, Theresa was acting so haughtily that
he could barely stand it. But just as he got up, he heard Dick coughing at the door and looked over.
“Good morning. Mr. White,” Kole greeted while standing up immediately.
Dick was wearing a coat, his sleeves hanging empty on either side. Glancing casually at Jimmy and
Kole, he walked over and took the seat right beside Theresa. Then he turned to Theresa. “You didn’t
keep your word.” There was a hint of complaint in his tone.
Theresa didn’t reply at once. She had expected that he would sleep for a longer time. “I just came
down to have lunch. What woke you up?” If she had known he would wake up now, she would have
had someone bring the food up and eat it upstairs.
“You weren’t there with me,” Dick muttered in a gentle polite voice but a hint of playfulness.
The others around them were stunned by the scene, especially Jimmy, who found Dick’s attitude
towards Theresa a bit peculiar. Jimmy had believed that after Theresa divorced Charlie, she would lead
a miserable life just like before. Theresa’s becoming a favorite with a big shot like Dick just shocked
him.
When Dick finished speaking, his gaze landed on Kole and Jimmy. “I was told that you two came here
to see
me.” He gestured for them to sit down.
Kole took his seat, looking at Dick. “Yes, Mr. White, I have wanted to come and see you these days.
How have you been?”
Dick nodded. “Not bad. Thank you for your concern.”
Kole had never seen Dick’s temper so well-controlled before when they were alone together. Perhaps it
was because Theresa was now staying with Dick. ‘It seems that Mr. White has a good mood when
staying with Ms. Cameron.’ Thinking of this, he mustered his courage, asking humbly, “Jimmy and I
have been good friends for many years. I know him quite well. He’s talented and competent. And now
he’s been working at Cameron’s Group lately. Since the company headquarters is short of staff, would
you consider having him work there?” If Jimmy weren’t his good friend, he wouldn’t dare to ask Dick for
Jimmy’s sake.
When Dick heard this, he shifted his gaze from Kole to Jimmy, raising his eyebrows. “I do have heard
of your contribution to Cameron’s Group. You are indeed capable of your job.” Dick’s praise improved
Jimmy’s expression a bit.
Feeling lucky, Jimmy thought to himself, ‘Maybe I would get the chance.
