Chapter 140: Peacock Plume
The shop wasn’t big, but it stretched deep. The wooden shelf on the wall had a lot of items with Chinese elements.
Of course, there were even more items from Western countries. There were a lot of sizes and categories, ranging from furniture to accessories.
Yun Xiangxiang picked some small items that had more of the Western culture quality as souvenirs.
The boss gave them a badge to commemorate their visit when he saw Yun Xiangxiang and Song Mian buying so much stuff.
Even though they didn’t get anything after shopping for a whole day, Yun Xiangxiang was still jovial.
She prepared everyone’s gifts too. She could return home straight after the charity dinner tomorrow.
Song Mian went to prepare the meal after they got home. Yun Xiangxiang sorted today’s spoils.
She only sorted those badges after she categorised everything. There were at least twenty of them
Yun Xiangxiang loved this kind of thing the most. She could also bring these back to share them with her friends
Yun Xiangxiang picked another up and suddenly felt that its weight was strange. She compared it to the others. It was really a lot heavier.
“It’s made of iron?” Yun Xiangxiang held it against the light and discovered that it was made of iron. No wonder it was so heavy.
She noticed that there was a dent at the edge just as she was keeping it. The traces of the dent seemed to make this badge hollow.
However, how could a hollow badge be so heavy?
Yun Xiangxiang compared it with the other badges. She noticed that it was slightly thicker.
She took that badge and went to look for Song Mian. Song Mian wasn’t in the kitchen. She turned around and saw him standing on the balcony.
When she got close, she managed to hear Song Mian say, “You tell him to do what his employer asked him to do, and I will let him go this time.”
Yun Xiangxiang stopped in her tracks. This was the first time she heard murderous intent in Song Mian’s tone after she knew him for so long.
It was freezing cold and strong. It didn’t allow for any questions.
It was like the view of his back now. It stood erect like a tall mountain and suffocated those who looked at it.
It was unknown what the other end of the call was talking about. Song Mian’s voice was still dominantly chilling, “I want him to be unable to seek medical help within five years. Whoever treats him will make an enemy out of me. May the heavens bless his health.”
Song Mian hung up after he finished. He turned around and faced Yun Xiangxiang. He didn’t feel surprised. His handsome face was still gentle.
His pair of dazzling eyes were still warm, “What do you have in your hands?”
“I think something’s wrong with this badge,” Yun Xiangxiang smiled and handed the badge to him.
Song Mian couldn’t see what was wrong either when he took it, “It’s made of iron?”
“Look at this dent here,” Yun Xiangxiang pointed at the hidden spot that couldn’t be seen easily.
“It’s hollow…” Even though the trace was minute, it wasn’t hard to notice that only being hollow could make this kind of edge in the dent.
It couldn’t be hollow with this weight. Song Mian went to the living room and took a toolbox. He quickly pried the edges open.
It was a very thin layer of iron. A gold coin revealed itself after the layer of iron was pried open.
There was only a minuscule gap between the gold coin and the layer of iron. That was why this badge was only slightly bigger than the ordinary badges.
This form factor wasn’t all that rare. That was why most people would think that this was just an ordinary iron badge.
If it wasn’t for that dent and Yun Xiangxiang’s attention to detail, they might dispose of it as an ordinary badge.
“It’s made in 1900. It’s an antique,” Yun Xiangxiang took the gold coin out.
Its denomination was twenty dollars. The head was a beautiful Statue of Liberty. It was surrounded by thirteen stars
The tails had a male eagle on it. One of its claws was holding an olive branch, while the other held three arrows and had English words carved on it:
In GOD We TRUST
Song Mian smiled, “It’s an antique, it has a value as a collectible.”
“How much does it roughly cost?” Yun Xiangxiang didn’t understand this field quite well.
“Around ten thousand.” Song Mian gave an approximate price.
She knew that that ten thousand wasn’t in US dollars when she saw Song Mian being like that. She thought that this was a big treasure.
However, she could settle with ten thousand. It had more meaning behind it, “I’ll donate this then.”
It wasn’t a competition of wealth. It was fine as long as the thought was there. The bidder wasn’t bidding for the item itself, but for charity.
Many famous people even auctioned their used items. It was a shame that she didn’t have that kind of charisma and influence.
“The price can be higher if you meet someone who loves to collect coins,” Song Mian answered neutrally.
There were a lot of these people no matter their country or overseas. The gold coin that Yun Xiangxiang got for free wasn’t quite many in numbers in the current market.
Yun Xiangxiang took her computer out after dinner. She placed the homework that she didn’t understand in front of Song Mian while he was here.
Most of their homework was done using computers. Song Mian also explained them patiently to Yun Xiangxiang.
He let Yun Xiangxiang do it by herself after he finished explaining and read a book at one side.
Yun Xiangxiang noticed Song Mian studying pollen and plants when she was packing after she finished the hardest part of her homework.
She didn’t bother him and instead went to practice and wash herself up.
He Wei took her to “FE”‘s company the next day. They saw the chief editor for the interview. He was a very humorous African American.
Their interview style was different from the ones back in their country. They didn’t let her see the questions that would be asked prior to the interview. It was like a casual chat.
The interview ended on a jovial note. They then took some pictures.
They even treated them to lunch and exchanged contacts with Yun Xiangxiang in the end.
He Wei then brought Yun Xiangxiang to a salon to style her up.
It was almost the end of the year [1]. Coco, Zhou Jie, Wang Yong, and others were released by Yun Xiangxiang for their holiday before she came to New York City.
“Why are you here?” Yun Xiangxiang noticed that Song Yao was there when she arrived.
“The young master asked me to send a nightgown to Miss Yun,” Song Yao handed the gift box to her.
Austin prepared the nightgown Yun Xiangxiang wore during the launch conference. She planned to buy one here at the last minute for the charity dinner.
However, since Song Mian had already prepared it, she naturally didn’t reject it.
It was a dress with a Chinese style, a pure white tube top with a flowing drape, and a beautiful peacock embroidery on the skirt.
The silk cape that had lifelike peacock plumes embroidered on it could be worn on the shoulders and lifted with the elbow.
The stylist tied her hair up slightly to the left and decorated it with two peacock feathers.
She wore a pair of teardrop shaped jade earrings, the same teardrop shaped jade necklace, and a bright green jade bracelet.
“Are the accessories made by MonRoe?” Her contract clearly stated that she had to wear MonRoe’s accessories in any kind of public event.
“Gems aren’t their only business. Jade is essential too,” He Wei nodded. “I sent the picture of the nightgown to Percy yesterday when I saw it and asked him to send these accessories over.”
He Wei already had Song Yao’s contact information after he met Song Mian.
“Let’s go, beautiful lady,” He Wei who had already suited up extended his arm to Yun Xiangxiang.
Yun Xiangxiang took his arm naturally before she turned around and asked, “Where’s your young master?”
“The young master went out in the afternoon. I don’t know where he went either,” Song Yao’s smile revealed two adorable canine teeth.
