Chapter 309: Sensible Choice
“Eric will pay for the damages his daughter has caused in some other way. I’ll accept it as much as I can.” Yun Xiangxiang quickly added.
As long as she didn’t have to get involved with the Cardicra family, she could accept the endorsement offer, even if they were related to the family.
She would have to come across Cardica’s brand sooner or later since they were in the same circle. Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t guarantee if the companies she was endorsing now didn’t collaborate with the Cardircra’s companies.
The Cardicra Family had a gigantic business empire which involved countless production lines. Since Yun Xiangxiang couldn’t escape it, she might as well accept the fact that she would have to work with them.
Yun Xiangxiang was surprised that Eric would be so generous as to give her two choices.
Eric found out that a famous Hollywood director was in the same city as Yun Xiangxiang that day. The director was here to do some field observation for his new film.
Yun Xiangxiang could choose to say that she went to the mansion to see this director and talk about her next film.
If Yun Xiangxiang made this choice, she could immediately join the Hollywood actors’ ranks by becoming this film’s female protagonist.
For Yun Xiangxiang, this was akin to rising to the top.
The other choice involved the top management of CX, the perfume brand. Yun Xiangxiang could choose to say that she talked about endorsements with the top management.
No matter how she chose, Yun Xiangxiang was in the mansion for business.
This was Eric’s compensation for Yun Xiangxiang. Both choices were opportunities Chinese actors couldn’t reach.
As for how much Eric had to pay to make either of the choices work, that was Eric’s business.
If he gave Yun Xiangxiang the choices, of course, he had the resources to make it work.
Yun Xiangxiang didn’t make her own decision this time. Instead, she discussed it with He Wei.
He Wei had already rushed over to her place and looked at the draft of the contracts Eric emailed them.
It wasn’t easy to choose from. He Wei placed both of the printed contracts on the table. “What do you think?” he asked.
“I choose the endorsement.” Yun Xiangxiang already had her choice. But since she made her own decision once, she had to talk with He Wei about this one.
If He Wei was more optimistic about the film, Yun Xiangxiang was willing to give it a try.
“You’ll be the female protagonist of a Hollywood film fully produced by Hollywood, and it will have an all-Hollywood cast. No Chinese actress has had this treatment before.” He Wei had to repeat it to her.
“Don’t test me, Brother Wei. You support my decision too.” Yun Xiangxiang exposed He Wei.
“Why should I support the endorsement?” He Wei refused to admit it. He crossed his arms and leaned against the sofa. “My goal is to make you into a world-famous actress. You’ll have tons of endorsements once you’re famous overseas. Many CX-level endorsements would be waiting for you.
“I don’t think I should try to go for Hollywood at this time. I’m not at that level yet,” Yun Xiangxiang rolled her eyes at He Wei.
“First of all, I saw this film’s script. If the protagonist were to be changed to Chinese, it would cause a lot of contradictions.”
“Secondly, asking for a script change no matter what would make the director, the main cast, and even the whole team disgruntled at me.”
“Also, if I bought my way into the crew, they wouldn’t think highly of me. If I did it once, it would be hard for me to get a film in there next time.”
“Don’t forget that a castle must be built brick by brick, or else it wouldn’t be able to weather a storm.
A literal overnight success could end up destroying her in the long run.
One day, she would get these resources with her own hands.
“That’s all the defense you have?” He Wei raised his eyebrows.
Yun Xiangxiang snorted, “This director is a guy. The story accused me of sleeping around to get roles. Him choosing me to play a prominent role out of the blue wouldn’t to me any favors. The top management of CX—on the other hand—is a lady.”
“I’m glad you can see everything clearly and make that decision in such short notice,” He Wei looked at her approvingly.
The choices were between that of the profit in the short term or the long run.
If Yun Xiangxiang chose to play in the film, the official announcement would shake the Chinese entertainment industry. The whole of Chinese entertainment would look up to her for a while.
But it would also bring a lot of adverse effects. If she didn’t have the capabilities to take this role, then the higher she was, the harder she would fall. She might even fall to below her current point.
Most actors would bet on this opportunity, no matter if the price were their own career.
Those who made this bet were those who thought they could get lucky and stay in the limelight.
This was a greater temptation than being offered the chance to endorse the Cardicra wristwatch. It was a temptation no actor could resist.
Yun Xiangxiang’s path of stardom had been smooth, almost too smooth.
Many people had to use years or even decades to get to where she was now, but Yun Xiangxiang only took two years for that.
He Wei was worried she might get lost on the way, and he did test her a few times back then.
But none of the temptations were on par with the script this time.
Countless actors dreamed of entering Hollywood.
Countless actors dreamed of appearing in Hollywood’s productions.
Countless actresses fantasized about being the protagonist of a Hollywood film.
When all of that was laid in front of them, it would be like an impossible dream come true for those actors.
They would be willing to go for it even if they had to pay for everything. They couldn’t stay rational and refuse it.
“I knew Brother Wei wasn’t that short-sighted,” Yun Xiangxiang smiled.
“Stop buttering me up and reply to them quickly. The company’s giving me calls nonstop.” He Wei put on a stoic look.
If it wasn’t for Yun Xiangxiang’s quick, righteous Weibo post, the news might be burning even further.
Even so, the discussion didn’t stop. Putting aside everyone Yun Xiangxiang had offended, she was also one of the most supported actresses by Huan Yu. Her quick rise to fame was already scaring people.
On top of that, she had always been an actress without scandals, so it was hard to attack her. Now that the enemies finally had something juicy, all of them ganged up on her.
“How long until the subpoena comes out?” Yun Xiangxiang felt that the subpoena could shut everyone up once it is given.
“Tomorrow.” He Wei guessed.
The number of reposts on the day this news was released was massive. Li Xiangling’s senior, Ren Yulin, might be a newbie, but he was fast at doing things.
The court filed the case the next day. Two days had passed since then. Yun Xiangxiang had also given them the evidence Eric gave her.
But things had not ended yet. The company was panicking, and rightly so. They have just finished filming “Jiu Se,” a film which they invested on.
Yun Xiangxiang wanted to end this sooner, as her fans were not the only ones waiting for her. Her company and her parents were waiting too.
When she recalled how worried Su Xiuling sounded when she called her daughter that night, Yun Xiangxiang felt like crying.
In her past life, Yun Xiangxiang would shoulder all the attacks on her by herself. In this life, everyone concerned about her would be restless even if she was slightly hurt.
Every time she made them worry, Yun Xiangxiang felt guilty and sad.
