“I... I should leave now. Please excuse me, young master. I’m so sorry to interrupt you and Ms.
Downey.”
Hayden heard the servant explaining hurriedly and her footsteps moving farther.
“Hey, that’s not the case.” Hayden trotted to the door and wanted to explain. When she pulled the door
open, however, there was no one to be seen in the corridor, as if it was just her illusion.
She wanted to cry but couldn’t shed a tear. Now it seemed that she wouldn’t be able to explain the
misunderstanding clearly.
“Do all the servants in your house always appear from nowhere?”
She looked back at Joseph bitterly.
Joseph didn’t understand. He looked at her with a frown. “What’s going on?”
“Forget it. Nothing.” Hayden didn’t think she could convince him if she told him that people would talk.
Hence, she didn’t bother. Holding the towels in her arms, she was about to leave. Standing in the
corridor, it seemed something came to her mind.
She turned around and said, “By the way, if you have time, please spend more time with Noah. I could
see that he felt quite insecure. You might have seen how happy he was when playing with Stella earlier
today. He really needs someone to accompany him, but you can’t just simple leave him to other people.
He needs someone he likes to accompany and take care of him.”
She originally had planned to ask if Joseph really had to marry Viola. After all, Noah seemed dislike
that big star very much, and that woman didn’t look like a nice woman either. However, after a second
though, Hayden felt that it would be weird for her to ask such a question. It might make others think that
she had ulterior motives, so she gave up.
It was the family business of someone else, anyway.
Looking at Hayden’s sincere and concerned look, Joseph suddenly thought of something.
Without any hesitation, he blurt out, “You can stay here to look after him from now on.”
His deep voice echoed in the big villa. Hayden was stunned. “What... do you mean?”
Joseph’s brow creased slightly, which was unseen by her. With a trace of surprise in his eyes, he
looked as if he didn’t believe what he had said. He quickly looked away to avoid her gaze. When he
spoke again, his tone became much indifferent.
“The nursing wage for you to take care of Noah will be three times as your wage as the hotel manager
every month.”
Upon hearing it, Hayden looked a bit relaxed. She just took that Joseph was pulling his leg.
Hence she answered half-jokingly, “I wouldn’t consider about it even you paid me ten times more. From
the perspective of my career development, I don’t think taking care your son would be better for me to
continue being the hotel manager. Mr. Beckham, please don’t worry. I still focus on ST Hotel. You don’t
have to test me in this way.”
Joseph looked expressionlessly. He didn’t speak anymore.
After she was gone, he closed the door of his bedroom, still recalling what he had said while standing
there. An inexplicable fluctuation appeared in his heart, which was stronger than that in his heart when
seeing her in the villa earlier this afternoon.
‘Why did I ask her to stay?’ he asked himself inwardly.
He believed that he had overthought -- how could he come out such an idea?
From the public aspect, she was just his subordinate -- an intern manager; from the private aspect, he
had only known her for a few months. To come out such an idea, he was totally contrary to the sensible
man he usually was.
After thinking for a long while, he attributed all these to the fact that Noah liked her and her daughter
very much.
However, although he had found the reason to explain his question, he still suffered from insomnia,
tossing and turning all night long.
On the other side, Hayden was totally different from Joseph.
After taking a bath, Hayden looked at herself in the mirror and used the expensive skin-care products
provided in the guest room of the Beckham’s villa. After applying a facial mask, which was so
expensive that she had decided to ignore her self-esteem and take away the whole box, she lay down
on the big bed with Stella in her arms.
She felt way too comfortable.
“Mommy, isn’t it cozy?” Stella asked such a question properly while nestling in her mother’s arms.
Hayden nodded with the mask on her face.
“Of course. I decided to take all the masks away tomorrow.”
“Didn’t I say that money could do anything? Mommy, as long as you can marry in, all those things will
become yours.”
Stella’s eyes were full of encouragement. She rolled over and lay on Hayden’s chest, looking extremely
expectantly.
Raising her eyebrows, Hayden poked Stella’s forehead with her finger. “You want to sell your mommy
just for such little profits? I should take you out to see the world more. I also used to be very rich, OK?”
Covering her forehead, Stella pouted. “I know. You became poor just because you gave birth to me. So
I do hope you could become rich again.”
When they were abroad, the man, whom Stella could only meet once or twice a year and addressed as
Dad, had ever told her that her mommy used to be a daughter from a wealthy family. It was because
that her mommy had given birth to her, so she couldn’t go home. Hence, Stella always knew to behave
herself and not to piss off her mother.
“What’s so different between being rich or not? Stella, aren’t we having a happy life now?”
Hayden closed her eyes, looking relaxed and joyful.
“Even if we are rich, we can only sleep in one bed in one room every night. Every day we can only
have three meals. Besides, we need to be on alert for people’s unkind plots. Compared the past, I
prefer my life at the present.”
Seeing that her mother was not ambitious not all, Stella heaved a sigh very sophisticatedly.
“Mommy, you can’t think in this way.”
“Mommy.”
Hayden didn’t talk to her again -- she had already fallen asleep.
Stella was helpless. Seemingly it was impossible for her mother to enlighten herself and seize this
chance. She decided to start with the handsome Joseph.
The next day, Hayden and Stella stayed in the Beckham’s villa for a whole day. In the evening, Joseph
drove them back home in person, which surprised Hayden a lot.
“Thank you so much, Mr. Beckham.”
After getting off the car, Hayden and Stella stood downstairs of their apartment building hand-in-hand.
Joseph was standing in front of his car.
With a deep voice full of strength, he answered, “It’s alright. You may go home now.”
Stella raising her head to look at Joseph.
“Joseph, would you please bring Noah to our apartment next weekend?” Her immature voice echoed in
the residential area.
Hayden looked at her in confusion. ‘You little girl. How come you are inviting someone so casually?
Have you asked me for permission?’ she thought to herself.
But then she thought that Joseph was really busy, so it would be impossible for him to agree.
“Sure.”
As soon as Hayden went back to her senses, she heard him agree.
Then her gaze with confusion fell on Joseph.
Joseph, however, looked quite calm and natural. He squatted down and rubbed Stella’s cheek dearly.
“I’ll bring Noah over next Saturday. Does it work?”
“Certainly!”
Stella glinted at him. Holding his neck, she kissed him on his cheek. “This is a stamp for deal. Joseph,
please keep your promise.”
Joseph was stunned for a moment. Touching his cheek, he suddenly smiled. “Ehn.”
There was rare tenderness in his smile, which suppressed Hayden’s blame on Stella back into her
stomach. Hayden stared at him for a long while before returning to her senses.
Suddenly she realized that Joseph was so serious usually because he might have a rigorous logical
consideration. After all, even if he seldom smiled usually, there were so many women lining up to
become his son’s stepmother. If he smiled, she was afraid that they would be willing to become his
mistresses.
For some reason, she suddenly recalled the ambiguous half-minute in the bathroom last night.
She blushed, her cheeks burning.
