No wonder that girl was calling another person’s name that night.
Caesar made a mistake. The surrogate mother didn’t show up that night, so Caesar sent another girl
into the room. After that, Caesar made that girl gave birth to the baby to cover up his mistake. Caesar
was afraid that what he did might expose, so he fired the initial batch of bodyguards, then retired from
the job.
Now everything is crystal clear.
“I’m afraid that Caesar might want to bring this secret into the coffin with him,” Magnus said heavy-
heartedly.
“But somehow, this secret affected the benefit of somebody. These people went and questioned
Caesar, and they knew we were suspecting about it. So they killed Caesar before we found out the
truth. It was not an accident.”
“All in all, somebody didn’t want us to know that girl was a mistake.”
“That girl…”
“Look for her.”
Joseph frowned. He took a glance at Noah, who was focusing on his food, then whispered, “Take
Noah’s DNA if it is necessary, and compare it to the DNA bank of Nanking.”
The truth was not plain at all. Joseph wasn’t interested in Noah’s birth mother at first, and he sure didn’t
want her to show up around him, but now it seemed like it involved conspiracies. He needed to know
the truth.
Magnus realized the significance of it. He nodded, “Sure. I’ll start looking now.”
…
It was two in the afternoon. The press conference from the Green Lemon was held in the DF Hotel
Conference Hall. Many reporters attended the press conference. People knew about Hayden and
Joseph, so they wanted to dig up some gossips.
Hayden was reading the script Benson gave her. It was only five minutes left before she needed to go
onto the stage.
“Hey lady, you can’t break in like this.”
“Hey, what are you all doing? Call the police. Call the police…”
Noises rose from the outside of the lounge out of sudden. Just when Hayden thought people were
trying to sabotage their press conference, she heard a familiar intense voice.
“I’m looking for Ms. Downey.”
Hayden startled. The door opened the next second.
“Aunt Scarlett.”
Scarlett stood by the door of the lounge. She was wearing a dark green coat with an elegant scarf on
her neck. She looked like she was in her 40s, although she was already in her 50s. Scarlett had three
bodyguards with her, and they were preventing people near her.
Scarlett was obviously pissed off. She entered the room and said, “Hayden, you don’t need to attend
the press conference today.”
“What? Why?” Hayden was still holding the script. Scarlett took it away from her.
Scarlett threw the script into the dustbin after taking a glance at what was written on it.
“It’s no use saying all these. Those reporters are shameless. Brook was so irresponsible to leave this
mess for you to clean up. I will take charge of everything today.”
“Aunt Scarlett, I can’t.” Hayden looked at Scarlett in worry.
Everything was well- arranged and now Aunt Scarlett showed to stir her plan up?
“What are you talking about? Are you saying that my words aren’t as powerful as yours?”
Joseph’s voice rose when they were arguing.
“What’s wrong?”
Hayden startled. She then saw Stella and Noah were hugging her legs. Stella raised her head and
called her, “Mommy!”
Things were getting out of control. Hayden looked at Joseph, “Why did you bring them here? This is not
a cocktail party. What are you all doing here?”
“You, fussy kid. Let me be the one telling the media that Brook is a bad person and he wasn’t even
your real father. You have nothing to do with the Downey Group. Why didn’t you understand me?”
Scarlett was a hot-tempered person. Hayden didn’t know how to communicate with her when she
looked so angry.
“It’s not that I don’t understand,” Hayden felt like it was hard to explain her thoughts.
Joseph gave signals to the security guards and asked them to clear up the staff at the door. He then
closed the door behind me, “Scarlett, can I give you my opinion?”
“…”
The reporters were sitting below the stage at the press conference. Hayden was sitting in the middle
and Benson, the Public Relations Manager and Scarlett were sitting right next to Hayden.
The reporters weren’t going to be kind to Hayden. Their first question was rather rhetorical.
“Ms. Downey, are you the eldest daughter of the Downey family? Are you the daughter of Brook
Downey?”
Hayden nodded in response to the question.
“So Ms. Downey, since you are the daughter of Brook Downey, why are you safe from the incident and
get to open a new company when all Downey members were affected? Is it true that Brook Downey
had transferred his money to you and your new company before the incident?”
“Of course, not. Not a penny in my father’s will belongs to me. I don't hold any share and I have never
stepped foot into Downey Group before. It is hard to say that I’m involved with the Downey Group at
all.”
The crowd was in an uproar. The reporters didn’t believe what Hayden said, “Ms. Downey, you said
that you are the daughter of Brook Downey but you have never stepped foot into your father’s company
at all? It is not possible. We learned that you are quite wealthy, and one of your property located at the
city centre worth one billion RMB.”
“Our source told us that the property was a present for you being of age.”
“The property was a present of being of age but you don’t get anything from your father’s will? It
doesn’t make sense.”
“Brook Downey enriched himself with the money from property development, and the workers don’t get
their salary until this very minute. Could it be that Brook Downey knew he had cancer and he could
escape legal punishment, so he transfers the money to you quietly?”
Before Hayden could explain, the reporters started to let their imagination flow. The press conference
almost got out of control.
“Enough!”
A loud and strict voice rose in the conference hall. A person stood up and showered Hayden with her
shadow. Hayden saw Scarlett stood up from her seat.
“This is all bullshit!”
“…”
“Who is this?”
“Why’d she talks like that?”
“…”
Scarlett’s voice gave the reporters enough pressure, so the whispering below the stage slowly stopped.
“What do you know? Do you even know the law? If a person transferred his money to somebody else,
then he can escape from being sued after death? Then the number of murder cases among family
members or bosses around the world will surely be uncontrollably high.”
Scarlett’s cold and powerful voice surrounded the hall and startled everyone in the conference room.
“Let me tell you why Brook Downey didn’t give anything to Hayden. I must tell you this. Hayden was the
eldest daughter of the Downey family, but she was the second daughter of Brook Downey! That girl
who jumped was Hayden’s sister, and the woman who ran away was her stepmother, not her birth
mother!”
Gossips from the wealthy family always interest the reporters more than other news. Everyone was
excited to hear this gossips.
