“No.” Pola got nervous and stammered, “I was frightened and tumbled. Ms. Downey had nothing to do
with this actually.:
Joseph looked at Pola angrily.
“I remember I’ve told you that you won’t meet Noah unless Hayden agrees. What happened?”
Joseph did not expect that Pola would attend this party. He did not know the reason. But he reckoned
that Harrison might have known something from Harrison’s eyes and what he said to Hayden.
“Mr. Beckham invited me,” Pola explained straight away, “I did not come here by myself. It was his
arrangement. And he said I could saw Noah from afar.”
“You won’t meet Noah again.”
After saying this, Joseph left Pola alone and went out.
He thought, being a surrogate mother might have impacted her life. And it was reasonable that she
wanted to meet Noah. But it seemed that she was not that reliable as she behaved. After he left the
bathroom, he went back to the dining hall and said to Magnus, “Check Pola’s identity and background
again.”
“Why? Is there any problem?”
“Just go and check.” Joseph was cold and glared at Magnus, “You are talkative now. Why does
Harrison know about Pola?”
Hearing this, Magnus gave a shudder and answered uneasily, “Mr. Beckham, I…”
“Stop that. Check her identity now. I want the result by tomorrow.”
“OK.”
Magnus did not dare to speak and left quickly with relief.
Joseph had never doubted Magnus about his ability because Magnus kept being his assistant for
years. And he never messed up. Therefore, when he took the result of the paternity test and other
evidence to Joseph and said Pola was Noah’s mother, Joseph believed him directly.
But Hayden kept being annoyed by that, so he did not contact Pola again. The memory of the past had
fade away. And it was difficult for him to assure that Pola was the girl six years ago.
However, he began to suspect her identity after seeing what happened in the bathroom.
Haydon would not slap anyone for no reason, which he never doubted, so Pola was definitely lying.
Although she acted well, she still gave the game away.
After the party, Joseph drove the kids and Harrison to home.
The nanny took the kids to sleep, so there were only Harrison and Joseph in the living room.
“Why did Hayden leave from the party?” Harrison wondered aloud, drinking his tea.
Joseph said coolly, “She was not feeling well so I asked her to come home and take a rest.”
“It was about Noah’s mother, wasn’t it?”
Harrison did not buy it and asked bluntly, “Hayden took it too seriously. Noah’s mother just wanted to
meet her son. She would go to Britain, right? And I heard that she was a child psychiatrist. Perhaps she
could help Noah. He’s more introverted than most of the kids in his age, like a little girl.”
Joseph frowned, “I will consider this later on. You should stop interfering.”
“You think I’m interfering?”
“I’m not going to let Pola meet Noah.” Speaking of her, Joseph’s eyes grew cold.
Harrison gave him a glare, “Her husband gets the advanced gastric cancer and hospitalizes. All she
wishes to do is to meet Noah. What’s more, it’s a mistake you have made before. Now you don’t want
to offer her a help?”
“It’s not your business.”
Joseph was firm with Harrison, and he did not want to explain further, “It’s late, I need to go. Good
night.”
“Joseph…”
Harrison’s face was purple with rage when he saw that Joseph left without a backward glance.
“Mr. Beckham, calm down.” Mark sighed next to him, “I think it was inappropriate that you invited Miss
Pola. It was unlikely that Ms. Downey would be unmoved by that.”
“But Pola was Noah’s mother after all. She was the one who had been carrying the child.”
“But, do you want Noah to come back to his mother, or stay with Ms. Downey?”
“He should stay with Hayden of course. She is going to marry Joseph later. I won’t confuse that.”
“That’s enough.” Mark was serious, “You hope Ms. Downey would treat Noah as her own son, but a
mother is not willing to share her son with another mom.”
Harrison went blank for a while after hearing this, “But Noah’s mother…”
“You should let Joseph to handle this by his own. He’s a grown man and he can handle this. We should
not disturb.”
Harrison nodded thoughtfully, but he soon glared at Mark, “You said I was disturbing?”
Mark’s expression changed suddenly, “I said I was disturbing. It was my fault that I didn’t remind you
before.”
Then Harrison’s serious expression softened.
There was high-pitched scolding inside a villa in the hillside this night.
The house was then echoed with the sound of slap.
“What are you thinking? I’ve warned you before that you should not try to trick Joseph and that you
should just do what I’ve told you. What have you done? Why did you say Hayden Downey slapped
you?”
Pola covered her face with her hand, with her teeth digging into her lip.
“Viola, I was trying to revenge you. Joseph trusted me deeply and he had said nothing to me this time.
He just asked me some questions.”
“Is he a moron to you?”
Viola was incensed and she wanted to give Pola a smack again, “Now he must send someone to
reinvestigate the evidence he’s got. Do you even understand you will get busted if there is any errors?”
Pola’s face turned pale gradually and she grasped the seriousness of the crisis then, “Viola, what
should I do now?”
“What can you do?”
Viola smacked her hand down onto the table and said angrily, “Pack up your stuff now and come back
to your hometown. Do not even want to come here in the next three years. The Beckham family is
enormously influential in Nanking, and it’s too late for you to run away if they discover something. Do
not get me into the trouble!”
Pola lowered her head. She was dumbfounded, sobbing quietly, “I know. Viola, I won’t get you in the
trouble. But I don’t want to come back, I’ve finally come out through my efforts.”
“It serves you right!” Viola glared at her, “You have to suffer the consequences!”
Looking at Viola, Pola knew there was nothing she could do now. She started to felt hopeless, but it
was too late to regret.
Viola was still exasperated by her, “Get out! It’s annoying to see you now.”
Viola planned this prudently to alienate Joseph from Hayden. But she didn’t expect that it would have
been screwed up by Pola’s stupid self-assertion.
