Hayden was stunned and verified, “You said that your name is Benjamin?”
The youth raised his head from under the blanket and his face was pale. His forehead was covered
with beads of sweat and struggled to nod, “Yeah.”
“What’s your last name?” Hayden asked.
The youth shook his head.
“Forget it, don’t think about it now.” Hayden patted his shoulders as she was worried that he would be
hurt if he was to recall something suddenly and she continued, “So you’re Benjamin, at least there is a
name now. I’ll try to find your family.”
If Benjamin was a student at the University campus, then it’ll be a problem because it was near to the
summer holidays and the University would hardly notice if anyone was missing. She could only
investigate on her own.
A week later…
The Blue Castle Kindergarten officially was on summer break.
Hayden went to the end of semester parents’ meeting and as expected, she met Joseph and Noah. As
soon as Noah saw her, he ran over to hug her leg. Although he didn’t speak, his joy was clearly
displayed on his tender and cute face.
Things between Hayden and Joseph became closer after the night at Lanxi town. They both moved on
from the period when they ignored each other. They kept their work separate from their private lives
and looked like things were going well for them. But only they knew that they were each wondering
about the other’s intentions.
“Mommy, can I stay at Noah’s house during the summer holidays?” Stella pulled Hayden’s sleeve and
brought her back to her senses.
Hayden didn’t hesitate and replied, “Of course.”
“Really?” Stella had prepared a long list of reasons to convince her mother but didn’t expect that her
mother had agreed so readily. It looked like things between mommy and Mr. Beckham were improving!
Noah was also very happy and smiled radiantly.
“Can Stella stay at your place for a while during summer? The two kids can play together. This will also
help me as I have to work.” Hayden looked pleasantly at Joseph.
Joseph smiled and was very calm, “Of course. You may also come to stay so that you can spend time
with the kids.”
“Me? That’s not necessary.” Hayden started to blush and tried to hide her thoughts.
She had her motives. She wanted Stella and Noah to spend more time together since they were
siblings. Although she could not reveal this now, it warms her heart whenever they played together.
“So you’ve found a place to stay?” Joseph asked in passing to change the subject and break the
awkwardness.
“Yes, I’ve found it. Later I’ll go to the hospital to have Benjamin discharged and then bring him over to
the new place.”
Two days ago, Chelsea suddenly called her and said that the Jinshui Villa Area house had been
returned to her. She told Hayden to stay at that house. Hayden didn’t think much of it but on the next
day, she found a set of house keys at Alayna’s letterbox.
“You are taking that kid to stay with you?” Joseph’s expression darkened.
“The doctors said that he can be discharged. I have not found out which school he was from and can
only take him back to stay at my place.”
“No.” Joseph coldly refused.
“Hayden, don’t you think that it’s inappropriate for you to take a grown man to stay at your place?”
Inappropriate? What was he thinking? To think that he could think of those aspects.
“I have no choice.” Hayden waved her hands, “I can’t possibly send him to the community hospital.
What if something happened?”
“Then stay at the hotel.”
“Ah?” Hayden became puzzled, “Stay at the hotel? Which hotel?”
“ST Hotel.” Joseph looked at her and coughed awkwardly, “Since this accident happened when you
were on a working trip, then the ST Hotel will have a room for him to stay for long term. This is not your
responsibility and the hotel will bear the responsibility.”
“Is this appropriate? I was the one who knocked him.” Hayden said.
“It’s appropriate since I said so.” Joseph then called Magnus for him to arrange for a room for Benjamin
to stay. The call was simple, to the point, and was settled within three minutes. The call was over
before Hayden realized what was happening.
The parents’ meeting was over and Noah continued to cling to Hayden. When he heard that Hayden
was going to the hospital, he started to indicate that he wanted to go as well and Hayden agreed when
she noticed that Joseph did not object.
Benjamin already stayed in the hospital for a week and seemed to be enjoying his stay. In the initial
couple of days, he was still having some post-trauma depression but had since improved considerably.
Now apart from keeping to himself, he seemed to be back to normal to the extent that when Joseph
visited him, Joseph started to suspect if he was faking his condition.
Hayden had left the patient’s room to settle the discharge procedures and the two kids went happily
with her. Joseph and Benjamin remained in the room staring at each other.
“You’ve recovered?” Joseph asked.
Benjamin nodded calmly, “I’m fine now thanks to Ms. Downey’s care and concern.”
“I see that you’ve totally recovered. So why are you still hanging around? Joseph looked profoundly as
if he could see through a person.
“I have not recovered my memory.” Benjamin was unfazed and looked directly at Joseph as he replied
orderly, “The doctor said that the blood clots in the brain had cleared. That’s why my memory is in
patches. I’m afraid I have to trouble Ms. Downey to take care of me for a while more so that I can
recover my memories.”
“How do you want her to take care of you?” Joseph asked.
“This matter doesn’t seem to concern you,” Benjamin replied.
Joseph looked coldly at Benjamin and said, “The extent of your needs will determine the arrangements
that I make for you. Do I have to arrange a person to wait on you?”
Benjamin was stunned for a moment and asked, “What do you mean?”
Before Joseph could answer him, Hayden pushed open the door after completing the discharge
procedures and she said, “Let’s go, what are you chaps chatting about?”
“I told him that the hotel is better than here.” Joseph stood up from the sofa, brushed some dust off
himself, and walked over swiftly.
Half an hour later, Benjamin checked into a suite at the top level of ST Hotel.
When Benjamin saw this, his expression changed, and asked Hayden, “Didn’t you say that I’ll stay at
your place?”
The hotel staff was still present and from their expressions, Hayden realized what Joseph said about
being ‘inappropriate’. She awkwardly explained, “Benjamin, I was thinking that it was indeed
inappropriate for you to stay with me. I normally work at this hotel and it would be convenient for me to
check on you if you stay here. You can contact me during the day if you need anything.”
“I…”
“Magnus, show him around the room.” Joseph interrupted Benjamin and Magnus understood Joseph’s
instructions and quickly pulled Benjamin into the suite. He then explained in details all the gadgets and
amenities in the room.
