“Stop messing around. Benjamin hasn't graduated yet, and he still can’t remember the events that have
happened before. He might already have a girlfriend.”
Hayden knew Alayna’s behaviour well. Once she started paying attention to a male adult, she was
probably thinking in that aspect.
Kevin might be a player, but if they were to compare, they were just at the same level.
“Why are you acting like my mother?” Alayna stared at her, "I was just asking you about it. Why do you
look like someone is going to steal your thing away?”
“You mean pig.”
“Who are you referring to, huh? You're the pig.” Alayna threw a pillow to her, “Is it wrong to look at
handsome guys? What's wrong with it if I yearn for the body of a young man?”
"Forget it. Do you think I don’t know you? You couldn’t stand the test of time at all. You must have
watched a Korean drama about the romance of a cradle snatcher. Come on, I think Kevin treats you
really well. He listened to your words."
“He listens to every woman.”
When they mentioned Kevin, Alayna immediately looked degraded. She withdrew her gaze from the
kitchen, "A leopard cannot change its spots."
“What's wrong? Did he mess with another woman again? I thought you two were doing well lately.”
"Even if he doesn’t mess with them, it doesn't mean no one will take the initiative to approach him. He’s
not a clean-living and honest man like Joseph. Did you really expect a womaniser like him would get
out of the silt untainted? Everyone is an adult now. Who doesn’t know how to live a calm life? They just
have to pretend not to see or hear anything.”
Hayden felt a little uncomfortable when she looked at the way that Alayna was not concerned about
anything.
“Alayna, sometimes the past is in the past now. We have to always look forward. You shouldn’t be
afraid to have expectations towards the future. You mustn’t keep everything to yourself and pretended
not to care about anything. After all, those things wouldn’t happen again.”
Alayna tightly held her fist and felt tense, “It’s not that I can’t get over the past. You’ve seen my life at
that time. The future of others was in their own hands, but mine wasn’t. Hence, I shouldn’t look forward
to the future and gave others too much expectation too. I’ll be fine as long as I’m happy right now."
“Maybe it wouldn’t recur again? You didn’t have a recurrence in three years, wasn’t it?
Hayden held her hand in an instant and her hands were really cold, as if there wasn’t any heat at all.
“You’ve said it yourself too. It’s just maybe.”
Alayna looked calm. Her cunning eyes were filled with too much stories at this moment. Only a few
people in the world knew about her past. It was a past that embarrassed her enough to affect the rest
of her life.
After a long moment of silence, Hayden saw Kevin seriously picking the edible part of the vegetables in
the kitchen. She turned around to ask Alayna,
“So are you going to tell him?”
Alayna shook her head and blinked.
“Why tell him that? Who knows we might break up after dinner?”
Hayden sighed and felt sorrow for her.
The hot pot was soon ready.
In three days’ time, her house was full of air conditioning, and the ingredients in the pot were steaming.
Stella stopped avoiding food to eat since she was three years old, so she could stand eating spicy
food. However, Noah was different. He tasted a sliced of cow meat and tears immediately streamed
down his eyes.
"Cough, cough..."
The little guy coughed a lot, so Hayden quickly gave him some water and he finally managed to relieve
the spiciness. The little guy refused to stay on the table anymore. He took a box of chocolates and
went back to his room. Then, Stella took two more bites and followed him too.
“Just like his father, this kid can't eat spicy at all.” Kevin teased,
“When Joseph was still a child, he always looked stern like an old man. He didn't like to talk to me too.
On an April Fool's Day one year, the friends that he was playing with gave him a cookie with chilli
sauce. He obviously felt it was spicy, but he still acted like he could stand it. Lastly, it was fortunate that
I found out about it and he was directly sent to the hospital’s emergency room.”
Alayna looked at him,
“Why were you the one who found out about it?”
"Well..." Kevin touched his nose, "Fate."
“Is that it?” Hayden rudely undermined his plan, "I heard that Joseph was hospitalized for two days
because of this matter. You came to his ward and cried every day. It couldn’t be due to brotherhood,
wasn’t it?"
“Why did Joseph tell you this as well?”
Kevin was anxious.
“So, what did this happen?” Alayna asked curiously.
“Don't ask.”
It was too late for Kevin to stop it.
Hayden directly said the truth out, "Because he was the one who put the hot sauce on the cookie.
When Joseph got hospitalized, Kevin was beaten by his father every day and he went to the hospital to
apologize. As long as Joseph didn’t forgive him, he was beaten every day. He went there to apologize
for a week straight, but Joseph didn’t bother to say a word to him at all."
“That’s so cruel.” Alayna laughed loudly.
“What?” Kevin was not convinced, "That was because Joseph had inflamed his throat, so he couldn't
speak that week! I was immediately forgiven when he could speak again.”
“He’s not in vegetative stage, why can't he speak?” Alayna continued to undermine him, "Look at Noah.
He can’t speak too, but does it affect him to express his words?"
Kevin was immediately pissed.
After being teased by everyone for a moment, Benjamin suddenly asked why Noah couldn’t speak.
“Is Noah naturally born like this?”
“No.” Hayden shook her head, “They told me that he had a high fever when he was young, and then he
stopped talking. I don't know much about the specific situation either."
When Kevin heard a chance to regain his image, he immediately answered,
"Noah was probably three years old when that happened and he was still staying at Joseph’s
grandfather’s house at that time. I happened to visit the old man to talk about something, but he wasn’t
home. Hence, I thought of stopping by to look at my nephew. I went over, but the nanny was not there.
Noah was locked in the room alone and laid in bed crying."
“The nanny wasn’t there? Did no one bother to care that a child was crying so loudly?
Benjamin asked hurriedly.
“You've never been to the Beckham family’s old mansion, so you wouldn't know.” Kevin glanced at him.
"The mansion is really big. Noah doesn’t live in the same yard with the old master. If I hadn’t went to
see him, no one would have noticed him.”
Hayden felt a slight pain in her heart.
If Kevin didn’t go over to check on him, Noah wouldn't have been here now.
"But doesn't the Beckham family give great care to Noah? How could the nanny be so irresponsible?”
Benjamin seemed to have realized something and he kept asking the nanny that was supposed to take
care of Noah.
Hayden also recovered from her surprise and became suspicious.
She had just been to the Beckham family's old mansion. The whole mansion was full of servants. Even
the adopted daughter of the old man had two servants by her side. Judging from the old man’s love
and attention towards Noah, it was impossible that he only provided Noah with one nanny.
There was clearly something wrong about it. Benjamin's reminder made her feel uneasy.
If someone did this, then this person must be really familiar with the servants’ shift relief system of the
Beckham family. He would know when there were people around and when there were fewer people,
or even able to bribe the servant to make it seem like a negligence. This couldn’t be done by ordinary
people.
This person must be familiar with the old mansion. He might be someone from the Beckham
family.
