Hayden Downey gulped as she looked at the man who was feeding her porridge, and she said
awkwardly, “You really seemed to be the CEO back then.”
“It was me.”
Joseph Beckham shoved the last gulp of the fish congee into her mouth. The spoon hit the wall of the
porcelain bowl, making a crisp sound. He rested on the bed, wiping his hands slowly.
“But I wasn’t the one in charge of the clothing brand.”
Joseph looked at Dante icily, “Hadn’t you eavesdrop on my phone call this afternoon? Still being
suspicious? Or is it that you don’t even want to admit it at all?”
Dante shivered with rage, “That’s all because of the conflict of interest between the senior
management, using us as an excuse. I’m sick of it.”
“I have nothing to say if you wish to think so.”
Joseph glanced at him, balled up the tissue in his hand, and threw it right into the dustbin at the end of
the bed.
If it weren’t for Hayden, he wouldn’t even bother to bring up these petty matters that were a mess
caused by Franklin Hawkins.
“I think it’s just a misunderstanding.”
Hayden looked at the two, “The ST Group accused the staff of its subordinate companies
indiscriminately back then, which is unfair as it can ruin someone’s life easily.”
Dante couldn’t agree more on this.
“Although the way the ST Group did this was wrong, Mr. Burke, you shouldn’t blame on others too
without knowing the truth. Then what’s the different of this and the way the ST Group have done?”
Hearing this, Dante’s face turned pale.
In fact, from Dante’s statement, Hayden could tell that Dante probably already knew that he had
wronged Joseph and regretted it. Just that he couldn’t step down.
“For my sake, why not you two shake hands and make peace. Mr. Burke, I have eaten your fish congee
and it tastes great. But I won’t be paying you, considering it as your apology for accidentally scalding
me.”
Hayden intended to liven up the atmosphere, but Dante just couldn’t laugh.
Joseph was just beside them with a blank expression. Nobody responded to her joke, and the situation
became even more awkward.
“He has to apologize to me.”
Joseph pointed to the bruise at the corner of his mouth, “Letting him apologize to me is just minor.”
“You…” Dante was furious and pointed to his own black eyes, “I was beaten like this by you.”
“Self-defence is different from intentional injury.”
Hayden coughed violently, seeing the two were about to pick a fight, “Ahem...”
Both of them then subsided, looking at her tensely.
“I came all the way here to sign a contract with the designer and end up scalding my leg. You two are
still bickering here. How irritating!”
Speaking of this, Joseph had a guilty conscience.
Hayden would be unlikely to get hurt if it wasn’t because of him. He gave Dante a cold-eyed stare as
he had nothing to vent out his anger.
Dante glared back at him nonchalantly, then looked at Hayden and asked, “Ms. Downey, you told me
earlier that you are not from the ST Group, is it? I just want to make sure about it.”
“Of course.” Hayden nodded, “I’m just a former employee of the ST Hotel, and I have nothing to do with
them. The Green Lemon Clothing was originally our family’s industry and now I’m in charge of it.”
Joseph was about to rebuke Dante, but after hearing Hayden’s words, he swallowed his words.
“Alright then.”
Dante nodded solemnly, “I’ll sign the contract with you on any terms. Just consider it as my apology to
you.”
“Huh?”
Hayden was confused for a moment, “Are you serious? You can say it again.”
Dante looked severe as he repeated his words.
Happiness came too suddenly. Who would have thought that Dante being so responsible and willing to
relent after scalding Hayden’s leg? It was worth it!
“Then I’ll get back to draft the contract and have someone to send it to you later on.”
“No need. You guys leave first. I’ll head to Nanking after I pack up my things here. By the way, I have a
condition.”
“A condition again?” Joseph glared at him.
“Tell me.” Hayden pinched Joseph while smiling at Dante, “Any condition.”
How could this be? Joseph was livid.
“I have no place to stay in Nanking and I need a temporary place to stay. I’ll then move out after finding
my own house.”
“Sure. It’s on me. You can just move in when you arrive.”
Hayden agreed with great alacrity.
After all, having a good designer was like gaining a cash cow! A house was nothing to that!
“May we have a pleasant cooperation.”
Hayden struggled to stretch out her arm to shake hands with Dante.
Joseph grabbed her halfway out the arm and pressed her onto the bed impatiently, “Your wound isn’t
healed yet. Have you forgotten the pain? Cut it out. Stay here.”
Dante glanced at Joseph with contempt and said faintly, “Machismo is the killer of marriage. Ms.
Downey, I advise you to consider this person carefully.”
“What did you say?” Joseph’s face darkened.
“I’ll go back to pack my stuff and try to go with you.”
Dante just left the hospital as if he didn’t hear Joseph.
“Hey, Mr. Burke, your bowl.”
A voice sounded from the direction of the health department lobby, “Just throw it away. I’ll get a new
one when moving in.”
Until Dante was long gone, Hayden was still staring in the direction he left, giggling.
“Happy?” Joseph stared at her coldly.
Hayden raised her brow, “Of course I’m happy for signing a designer.”
“You never smiled at me like this.”
“To you?”
Hayden gave him a disgusted look, “Others will think that I’m a psycho for smiling at you like this.”
If Alayna Cole saw this, she would say that Hayden was bewitched by beauty and being a
nymphomaniac.
Joseph was dissatisfied with her answer, gritting his teeth, and said, “I tried my best finding a way to
bring in this designer while you were still in the ward treating your wound. But then you just pay
attention to that brat and not even asking about me. Hayden, don’t you have anything else to tell me?”
After saying this, he regretted it, frowning and wanted to leave.
Formerly, he would say nothing for doing anything. But now, he was probably pissed off and turned
cheeky, wanting to take credit for it.
Hayden grabbed his hand suddenly. His hand was big and warm.
She leaned over and gave Joseph a warm kiss on the corner of his mouth.
“Thank you.”
The ward became stilly, and he heard the softest voice.
