Joseph was calm, “So are you making things difficult for me or for Addison?”
“How am I embarrassing Addison? Her mother has mentioned to me several times that as long as you
want, you can even have your wedding tomorrow.” Harrison was browbeating, “Don’t you pass the buck
again.”
“Addison is going back to France at the end of this month. Besides her brother, her whole family will
emigrate to France. So if you want me to follow her to France, it’s fine for me. France is a good place.”
“What?” Harrison turned blue and stood up from his seat, walking back and forth inside the house. He
then came back and slammed the table, “I don’t care if Addison is leaving or not. You must get married
by the end of this year anyway. You’re in your thirties now, always being idle, and still hooked up with a
married woman. What would it look like if others knew it?”
“Marry whoever I want?”
“Yes. Anyone except Hayden!”
Joseph held his arms and looked around. He then pulled out Eleanor Beckham, who was hiding in the
doorway and eavesdropping, “Then let her be it. You knew her well and even made her as a child bride
for me.”
“Huh?” Eleanor was shocked.
Harrison turned blue, looking at Eleanor, “You little brat…”
Mark was appalled, trying to smooth things over, “Young master, don’t make fun of Miss Beckham,
she’s your aunt. It’s incest from the aspect of your seniority, and it is also illegal from the age.”
Joseph said blankly, “She is grandpa’s adopted daughter, without any blood relationship. As for the
age, it was grandpa who wants me to get married by the end of this year. If grandpa doesn’t mind, I can
wait. How old are you now?”
Eleanor was dumbfounded and stumbling as being held by Joseph in the arm, “Thirteen.”
“Thirteen, it won’t be long to wait for another five years.”
Joseph spoke as he looked at Harrison with a straight face.
Harrison was so furious that he almost smashed the table, “I think you’re crazy! It’s outrageous!”
Joseph let go of Eleanor and tidied his suit, “Everything I did is always unreasonable to you. What else
I can do?”
“Get out of here.” Harrison slapped the table. Everyone was silent while Harrison’s loud voice echoed
in the room, “From today onwards, don’t you ever set foot in my place if you haven’t figured out what
you did wrong.”
Harrison was indeed pissed off this time.
Nobody was dared to stop Joseph from leaving. Mark wanted to persuade him, but he was rebuked by
Harrison.
“Whoever dares to stop him, get out of here too.”
Mark turned around and only saw Harrison sitting on the fauteuil, blowing a fuse, “Who does he look
like? His father was so good-tempered back then, how did he give birth to such a son?”
Mark and Eleanor looked at each other and then gazed at Harrison.
This might be known as intergenerational inheritance.
After sending away Eleanor, who was poorly frightened, the maid served the chrysanthemum tea
again. Mark tidied up the chessboard at the side, “The young master is still young and impetuous. Why
should Sir bother with him?”
“Is he still young? He’s in his thirties and still being a jerk about his marriage. Am I wrong to let him get
married? As for his position now, how much troubles will he get into for not getting married? Is it a joke
that Noah got trouble one after another?”
Harrison turned cold speaking of it, “He has always been cold and impersonal. If we don’t let him start a
family soon and let someone control him, there’s no telling what else he might do in the future.”
“It’s not a bad thing to be unsympathetic. When the master was still alive, didn’t you think he was
indecisive and being too gentle? Because of this, in the end…”
Harrison was sorrowful when mentioning his only son, who had passed away many years ago.
Harrison, who was being hale and hearty, turned depressed suddenly, “Henry was such a wonderful
child. Back then I was delighted when he came to me and said he wanted to marry Rebekah. But who
would have thought that such things happened later? “
“It’s my fault.” Mark regretted it, “I shouldn’t have brought up this sadness. Don’t think about it, Sir. You
haven’t finished playing the chess yet. Let’s continue.”
“No.” Harrison stood up, “I’m tired. I want to take a nap.”
Mark heaved a sigh, watching Harrison entered the bedroom.
Harrison’s life had really been full of ups and downs. He had lost his father in his early childhood and
lost his son in his middle age. Joseph and Harrison were bad-tempered and not on good terms. There
hadn’t been any harmonious and warm times in the family over the years.
Mark suddenly recalled that there was a time when they were harmonious. It was a few months ago
when Joseph and Hayden Downey were in a relationship. He even thought everything would be fine
then.
…
Hayden was back from the supermarket with the groceries and spoke into the house as she opened
the door, “Benjamin, I’ve bought some food and I’m going to the Beckham’s house to cook for Noah
later. If you’re hungry, you and Stella just cook some noodles to eat first. I’ll be back very soon…”
Before she was done talking, she saw many pairs of shoes scattering on the porch as she looked down
to change her shoes. And there were obviously two pairs of men’s leather shoes.
As Hayden was stunned, a little one rushed towards her, hugging her and cried out in a low voice,
“Mommy…”
“Noah?” Hayden was staggered and overwhelmed, “Why are you here?”
“I knew that they were self-inviting, but he claimed that you made them come.” Benjamin’s voice was
coming from the living room.
Hayden looked up and saw Benjamin glaring at Joseph with a furious look, “What else do you have to
say now? Hurry up, pack your things and leave.”
“What’s going on? Eleanor, why are you here too?”
Hayden carried Noah Beckham in her arms, entered the living room and saw a row of people on the
sofa, from left to right in height was Benjamin, Eleanor, to Stella Downey. The three were all glaring at
Joseph, sitting on the single couch, full of hatred.
This scene was absolutely puzzling.
As she was thinking, Noah let go of Hayden’s hand and walked to the sofa, sitting next to Stella, and he
cooperatively glared at Joseph too.
What the hell was going on?
“Tell me. What’s going on?”
Hayden returned from washing her hands and stood in front of the coffee table blocking the TV, “Who
first?”
“Me.” Benjamin was the first to raise his hand, feeling outraged, “I just came back from taking Stella out
to eat, and saw this girl squatting in front of our house.” Benjamin pointed to Eleanor, who was beside
him, “This girl claimed that she was Stella’s friend, so I let her in. But it turned out that she didn’t intend
to leave as she ran away from home. I wanted to call the police, but then before the police arrive yet.”
Benjamin glanced at Joseph, “He brought this kid here, and he said that you agreed to make dinner at
our house. Did you agree it, Hayden?”
“Your house?”
Joseph’s deep cold voice sounded, and he was obviously dissatisfied with Benjamin’s words. He
narrowed his eyes at Benjamin icily.
