Brook’s memorial service was scheduled for Saturday. After the morning farewell ceremony, the
family's relatives took the ashes for burial at the cemetery. According to Brook's wish in his lifetime, he
wanted to be buried next to Florence Barnett after his death. Sofia Mason cried and fainted once at the
funeral after knowing this news. But she agreed to it at last.
Even if she agreed to it, Hayden disagreed with her. And Hayden's aunt, Scarlett Zack, rejected this
suggestion too. So the Hayden family had to choose another cemetery, far away from Florence's grave.
"Brook, don't worry. I'll take care of our daughter and manage the company after you're gone. My
brother's kids have grown up and they have the ability too. According to your will, they all have the right
to inherit the company…"
An ordinary funeral turned into a share distribution conference by Sofia.
Hayden was depressed listening to it. She stood still for a while, and she then pulled away from the
crowd quietly.
Brook was considered pulling himself up by his bootstraps, having a hard lifetime and suffering, and
still being set up by Sofia in the end. Hayden wouldn't believe that her father would leave all the
inheritance to Sofia and her maiden family member. Even in order, it should be given to Chelsea
Downey first.
Everything was gone after death. Hayden no longer wanted to get involved with the Downey family
now.
Before Hayden left, she went to her mother's grave to have a look.
After squatting down and pulling the weeds, Hayden looked at the photo on the tombstone and let out a
sorrowful voice, "Mother, I guess you should be able to see dad in the after-world now. I have taken it
upon myself to forgive him. But I think you wouldn't want me to hate him too. Grandpa told me that
when you gave birth to me, you gave me this name, hoping that I will live my life in peace..."
After rambling a lot, Hayden was tired of standing and wanted to leave. As she turned around, she
came across someone in black, with a dazzling white flower on the black shirt.
Sofia was staring at Hayden icily, and she spoke meanly, "I've been searching for you for a long time
and you've come here by yourself. You think that I have nothing better to do?"
When Brook was still alive, Sofia was used to be a good stepmother. But everything was gone after
death.
Hayden sneered on the inside and spoke casually, "The funeral is over and what else do you want from
me?"
Sofia tittered as she scanned Hayden contemptuously as if she had been prepared for this, "The
funeral is over but don't you want to hear about your father's will?"
Hayden frowned, "Does it have something to do with me?"
"It's a pity." Sofia laughed out loud, "It indeed has nothing to do with you, not even a single word
mentioning you in his will. Don't you think it's funny? He didn't even leave any things for the daughter
who he always fond of after he died."
The look on Sofia being pompous and arrogant was making Hayden sick.
"Florence, look at you. Your daughter who you always thought of, was actually worthless in the eyes of
Brook. He left nothing for your daughter, do you know?"
Sofia glared at the picture on the tombstone, with her eyes popping out and filled with resentment.
Hayden blocked in front of the tombstone and said in a cold voice, "Please behave yourself and
respect the dead. My mother has no point of being humiliated by you."
"Humiliating?" Sofia curled her lips, "Do you think she humiliated me less? She was being lofty, aloof
and pretentious, but she still lost her life, isn't she? What goes around comes around, Florence. Do you
think you can beat me by leaving such a bitch behind?"
Hayden shivered with anger, "Beat it…"
"Who are you to tell me to leave? There's a thing I wanted to do a long time ago."
Sofia raised her arm fiercely.
There was light rain in the sky. When Hayden raised her head, a raindrop fell on her eyelashes, and
she closed her eyes, not having a chance to dodge the slap. And it was too late by the time she
realized it.
But the expected pain didn't fall on her face. Instead, Sofia exclaimed, "Who are you?"
Hayden heard a familiar voice.
"Who I am doesn't matter." The man's voice was steady and yet inviolable.
"All you need to know is that if you slap Hayden, then I'll make you and all the inheritance that you
inherited, turn into nothing overnight. I meant it."
"Edison."
Hayden looked at the man in front of her with surprise, "Why are you here?"
"I returned to the country in advance. I heard about your father's accident, so I came over." Edison
Godfery simply explained while he stared icily at the woman in front of him.
Sofia sized the two people up and sneered suddenly, "Hayden, you're really capable, hooking up with
Joseph and then another one now. Do you do a living by only relying on men?"
Before she was done talking, two black men appeared beside Hayden and seized Sofia on both sides.
Lorraine came out and said in a cold voice, "Gag her."
The two bodyguards did as they were ordered, took out a handkerchief, and stuffed it into Sofia's
mouth, not letting her talk anymore.
Lorraine waved her hand, and the two men carried Sofia away.
"Hey."
Hayden motioned.
"Relax, it's gonna be fine. Just to warn her and we will let her go then." Edison patted Hayden's
shoulder to reassure her.
Only then, Hayden heaved a sigh of relief.
After finish dealing with Sofia, Lorraine turned towards Hayden with her umbrella and hugged her,
saying sincerely, "I just heard about your father, I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, Hayden."
"It's fine." Hayden hugged Lorraine too, smiling bitterly, "It's nice to see you again, Lorraine."
Lorraine was taller than her, and every time she hugged Hayden, she was like hugging a child. Hayden
wasn't short at all, but she always looked puny when Lorraine hugged her.
After all, Lorraine was a mixed-blood, having good genetics.
"It's raining, anything you still want to do, Hayden?" Lorraine let go of her, with the umbrella sheltering
Hayden.
Hayden shook her head, "Nope."
The rest of the matter was nothing more than Sofia's maiden family members' wrangling about the
shareholding. Since the will had nothing to do with her, then naturally, she had nothing to do with them
too.
The rain was getting heavier. Hayden and Edison left under the same umbrella. She didn't notice that
there was someone else standing in the other direction of the cemetery. He was worn out for taking the
earliest flight back here, and he had just seen Edison embracing Hayden leaving.
"Mr. Beckham, don't you want to call off Ms. Downey?"
Magnus James stood beside Joseph Beckham with an umbrella, feeling bad.
The resort project in Shanghai was in the middle of a discussion when Joseph heard about the news of
the Downey family. And he rushed back immediately halfway through the negotiation.
"Get the car and follow them." Joseph's voice sounded.
