Kevin Jackman became twitchy for Joseph Beckham had read his mind, “Can’t I? Alayna will be fine.”
“You’re wrong.”
Joseph said firmly, “Your parents will surely check on the person you want to marry in the future. But if
then they find out that you had concealed so much from them in Alayna’s medical history, they will
definitely disapprove you two being together.”
Joseph had known Kevin’s parents since he was a child. They indulged Kevin in doing everything as he
was an adult already, but they couldn’t bear any deception nor concealment. It was not hard to imagine
that they would detest such a girl after knowing Kevin had concealed such an issue to them.
“You can do that if you do want to risk Alayna being disliked by your parents for the rest of her life.”
Joseph’s words had cut off Kevin’s plan.
Kevin’s brows were drawn together in a deep frown.
“In fact, it’s no big deal at all. I’m not afraid of my parents not accepting Alayna after they knew it. Just
that, I’m fear of Alayna being angry if I took it upon myself to announce our relationship when she was
still delirious. We are actually still in the breakup period.”
Kevin took Alayna back home just because she was fuzzy-headed at that moment.
Up to this point, Joseph had no reason to continue. He patted on his shoulder, “I’ve done talking. For
the rest, Hayden will talk to you.”
“Alright.”
Kevin nodded.
Hayden Downey was Alayna’s only best friend as well as a secret sharer. And Hayden was also the
only one who Alayna told her about her condition personally. Now that Hayden was here, naturally, she
had words for him.
After a while, Hayden came out of the bedroom.
Joseph was sensible too, and he got up, “I’ll go to the garage and bring the car downstairs.”
After saying that, he gave Hayden a look and left.
“Take a seat.”
“No need.”
Hayden said faintly, “Seems like you didn’t take Joseph’s words.”
“I’ve taken it in.”
Kevin explained, “It’s all good words for my own sake. But when thinking about it, he didn’t even
consider Alayna. After all, he didn’t put himself in my place.”
“However, I’m in Alayna’s place.” Hayden had an acute sight, “The words that I’m going to say may be
unpleasant for you.”
“Go ahead. I’m ready for it. I’ve prepared for all of this since the day I learned about Alayna’s medical
history.”
“Have you ever prepared that one day if you can’t hold it on anymore and you have no choice but to
give up on her?”
Hayden spoke in earnest, without any sense of joking or irony, asking this very question.
One day if you didn’t love her anymore, or you were tired of your life and could no longer afford her life
too, what should she do?
Kevin clenched his fists, “Hold on.”
After saying this, he walked to the open reading area in the corner, pulled open the door of the bottom-
level bookcase, and moved an aluminium portable safe out.
“This is the proof of all my real estate. I have a total of thirty-six properties under my name, with the
most valuable one in Beijing. There are three out of the six properties in Nanking are stores, rented out.
And the rest are mostly distributed in the tourism and resorts zone across the country. This is the proof
of my cars and share certificates…”
“Why are you showing this to me?”
Hayden was confused, listening to him reporting his assets to her. She couldn’t help but interrupt him
after listening for a while and noticed that there were still half of the things in the safe that he hadn’t
taken out yet.
Kevin stopped moving those documents out, raised his head, and said solemnly, “If it’s really like what
you said, I can’t afford her life anymore one day, I have considered this too. But for now, I don’t think
the reasons will be me not loving her nor I can’t bear it anymore. I’ve even thought about what if some
disasters happen and take my life away.”
Hayden was speechless.
“This is all the tangible assets in my name. I had my lawyer draw up a contract that will transfer all of
these assets of mine to Alayna in the event of any situations that you just mentioned.”
“What about her inability to use them?”
Hayden had a complex feeling saying this.
“Then there will be a three-way tie between the trust institution, the welfare organization, and the
mental institution, supervising each other to take care of Alayna for the rest of her life.”
After listening to Kevin about his arrangements, Hayden had to believe that Kevin had really done his
homework for the matter of taking care of Alayna. Perhaps he did this on a whim, but this fervour of him
didn’t overwhelm his sanity. He was even way too sensible.
He even took account of the case about the trust and welfare organization joining hands to defraud his
property. He requested that Alayna live at least until the age of eighty, with her body organs and tissues
having the average level as others of the same age. Only then the remaining money would be gifted to
the welfare organization.
Hayden was speechless.
When leaving Kevin’s home, sobbing sounds were coming from inside the bedroom. Kevin seemed to
be used to it, “I can’t stay with you anymore. She must be crying watching the movie. I need to comfort
her.”
“Go ahead.”
Hayden believed that the care given to Alayna in Kevin’s place was better than elsewhere. But she was
vaguely worried that such care would bring twists and turns to Kevin’s life.
After getting into the car, Joseph kept his mouth shut about the matter in Kevin’s house and asked
about other things instead, “Want to go to Harrison’s place to check on Stella?”
After knowing what happened to Alayna, Joseph had sent someone to take Stella Downey to Harrison
Beckham’s home.
Hayden was not in the mood and sighed, “No need. Stella must be asking me about where did Alayna
go when seeing me. I haven’t thought of how to answer her.”
“Then let’s not meet her for now. I heard from the butler that Stella is having a good time in the old
mansion. School is about to start and she needs someone to take her to and from school. And it
doesn’t bother her for you going or not.”
“Who said that? When the company is up and running well, I can still fetch her.”
Hayden disagreed with him for describing her as a freeloader and being ungrateful.
“Magnus will keep an eye on the remodelling of the company. As for the designer…”
Joseph glanced at Hayden as if he was weighing his words, “Besides Dante, you still need to form a
team of designers. I have let Magnus issue a recruitment in the name of Green Lemon Clothing. Would
you mind?”
Hayden came back to her senses gradually, “The position of the chief designer just let it be reserved.”
“Alright. Let it be open then.”
On a moonlit evening, Nanking was still bustling with neon lights lining the streets.
How far could a person go for love?
Alayna was fearful of being abandoned the most. Her self-esteem wouldn’t allow such things to
happen, and that was why she concealed her disease. But in the end, she was still with Kevin.
Hayden leaned on her seat, staring blankly at Joseph in the driver’s seat for a long time, “Joseph, I
have something to confess to you.”
