Betrayal
Ian knew Kurt might have appeared because of Sebastian’s arrangement. That was why he wouldn’t ask
Kurt too many questions, nor would he get in Kurt’s way.
After Kurt cleaned Ian’s wound, they both stood up. “Hey, while you were on your way here, did you
see Vivi and Duncan? Where are they?”
Kurt answered honestly, “I did not see Duncan, but I found Vivi in a cave. She sprained her ankle, so I
got her somewhere safe before I came to find you.”
Ian was surprised that Vivian and Duncan came in. “They came here too? What is this place anyway?
How did they even come across this spot?”
“There’s a cavern right under the path you took. We came in through that place. Since you’re injured
now, I’ll take you back to where Vivi is. Leave Duncan to me. I can search for him myself,” Kurt suddenly
suggested.
Ian noticed his cold gaze, but he looked away after a moment and stared at the dusty cave.
“It’s all right. I’ll go with you. If my guess is correct, this place should be Eddie’s base back when Daddy
and his friends fought him. Right after the battle, Daddy even came to look for the equipment’s research
before he got into trouble. He gave it to me, but I couldn’t make them, so I gave them to Duncan.”
Kurt said nothing, and silence fell between them. It was not a peaceful silence, however, for the
atmosphere was tense. It was nothing but the calm before the storm.
In the end, Kurt took Ian and went deeper into the base. They did not have to worry about Vivian, since
Kurt knew the place like the back of his hand, and she had GPS in her smartphone. He could locate her
whenever he wanted.
They went deeper into the base, and just as expected, they came to the center of the cavern about half
an hour later. It was the research base under the temple that Sebastian had locked away.
When they came to the place, they heard the sound of something being knocked about. It was the sound
of a glass container being rubbed, but it also sounded like a metallic item being knocked about.
Ian was as pale as a sheet of paper. He stood at the entrance, and he stopped walking. It took all he had
to look at the person within the base, and he couldn’t even walk.
Found him. When Kurt saw the person, his eyes were filled with murderous intent, and it permeated the
air around him. “You stay here. I’ll go inside alone.”
He patted Ian’s shoulder before he went into the base alone.
He knew how Ian was feeling. Because of his personality, it was hard for him to make friends whom he
could fully trust. The reason he cheered up and became a happy guy over the last three years was
thanks to Duncan.
But now, Kurt held the deepest hatred against Duncan. “What are you doing?”
“Huh?” Duncan was taking notes and rummaging through the ruined lab apparatus when Kurt appeared
out of nowhere. As he was taken aback, his book fell out of his hands.
“K-Kurt… What brings you here?”
“I’m asking the questions here. What are you doing?” Kurt asked with an icy tone.
Kurt stared at the thing Duncan was holding, and his gaze was sharp. If anyone were to see him in this
state, they would shudder.
Duncan didn’t just shudder; all the color drained from his face. “Kurt… I-I came to find Ian. He’s lost, a-
and I found this place, s-so I wanted to take some notes…” He scrambled for an explanation.
Every time he faced Kurt, he was filled with anxiety. Kurt was distant, aloof, and he never smiled.
Whenever Duncan met his gaze, he would always feel a shiver running up his spine.
Duncan had always been reluctant to see Kurt, and he’d always give Kurt a wide berth. However, his
luck had finally run out.
“Take notes? Do you know what this place is? Or is this the real reason you took the two of them here
today? You’re trying to get your hands on all the data here, aren’t you?” Kurt mocked him.
He went over to pick the notebook up. When he skimmed through it, he saw all the data that was written
in it. It was a perfect copy.
Kurt was a genius in chemistry. After he came to this place, he didn’t even have to do any test to know
what the residue lying around the place was.
Duncan paled and wanted to explain himself by coming up with an excuse, but it was useless.
At that moment, he saw Kurt tearing the notebook apart, then he gripped Duncan tightly and hurled him
toward the dusty lab table.
Duncan screamed.
“Kurt, wait a minute!” At the same time, Ian finally came to the scene. He shouted out to Kurt and stared
at Duncan, who was moments away from getting his neck snapped.
Ian’s face was pale and ashen, as if he was a corpse.
