Chapter 362 - "I am on you and Rugui's side." (3)

Hosting foreign guests?

The last few words made Tong Xuelu’s eyes beamed.

Only Top Tier government-operated restaurant could host foreign guests.

Her current restaurant was only ranked second tier and did not qualify for hosting foreign guests.

She just might be able to upgrade her restaurant if she could win the competition.

There were a lot of other benefits associated with winning the competition as well. First of all, she would get a raise in her salary. Then the restaurant would have budget to expand and remodel.

Thirdly, and the most important one of them all, she could have a phone installed at the restaurant!

There was no phone at her home or her workplace right now. If she could have a phone installed at work, it would be much easier for her to contact Wen Rugui in the future.

Tong Xuelu’s red lips curved. “Thank you, Secretary Zhuo. We should go shopping together sometime.”

Secretary Zhuo’s eyes lit up when she heard that and she nodded repeatedly. “Yes, I’ll look you up when I have time off!”

She felt that Tong Xuelu was pretty and knew how to dress well. She would be able to provide her with suggestions.

Naturally Tong Xuelu had no reason to turn her down.

Walking out of the Commerce Department, Tong Xuelu started thinking about how to win the competition.

She got an idea quickly.

***

Tong Jiaxin was very happy when he first stopped going to school. But it didn’t talk long for him to realize that something was off.

He had to get up everyday at the crack of dawn, make breakfast, did the dishes, the laundry, clean the house, the chicken coop. And when he was finally done with all those, it was already the afternoon, and it was time to prepare lunch.

It was now fall and there were constant fallen leaves in the backyard to clean up. By 3-4 PM, he had to go stand in line to get groceries before he had to start preparing dinner.

At the end of the day, not only did he not have a breather at all, he had to run around all day nonstop.

The weather was getting colder and colder and, having to do laundry in this temperature, was about to give him frostbite.

Tong Jiaxin regretted now.

He never would have thought that doing housework would be more difficult than going to school.

When Tong Xuelu returned home that day, he told her that he had regretted about his decision and wanted to return to school.

Tong Xuelu looked at him coldly. “You regretted about your decision now?”

Looking embarrassed, Tong Jiaxin nodded. “Yes.”

Tong Xuelu said, “Well, I am sorry to tell you that you have already gone down the path of no return. I asked you to think things through. You have already dropped out of school. Even if you wish to return now, your spot was already gone.”

Tong Jiaxin turned pale immediately. “What am I going to do then? I don’t want to stay home and do the housework anymore. Big Sister, please put in good words for me with the teachers!”

Tong Xuelu chuckled. “Why should I go and put in good words for you? I’ve cleaned up after the messes you’ve made at school all the time. Do you expect me to follow behind you and clean up after you for the rest of your life?

“You are not young anymore. You need to be responsible for your own decisions. I’m your Big Sister, not your servant. I have a lot of things to take care of everyday and don’t have the time to clean up after up day in and day out.”

Tong Jiaxin bit down on his lips. So much that they turned pale.

Tong Xuelu, “I have given you the chance but you decided to throw that away. Certain things in life there are just no going back.”

Having said that, she returned to her room and grabbed her clothes to shower without looking at him again.

As soon as Tong Xuelu walked out of the room, tears rolled down Tong Jiaxin’s cheeks.

He was the only one left in the living room. It was as though he had been forgotten by all and nobody was there to comfort him.

Tong Jiaxin cried harder and harder. It was as though he had lost control of his tears and he couldn’t stop them.

Tong Jiaming stood by the window for a long while before he turned and walked away.

Tong Jiaxin’s eyes were swollen up like walnuts the next morning.

Tong Xuelu acted like she hadn’t noticed it and left for work after breakfast.

Tong Jiaming, too, didn’t say anything. He put down his chopsticks and left to school with his backpack when he was done with breakfast.

Looking at the back of his Second Brother and recalling the days when the two would push their bicycles to work, Tong Jiaxin missed going to school for the first time ever.

He had truly regretted.

What was he to do when his Big Sister refused to help him though.
