Chapter 418 - She ran a high fever that night. (2)

Tong Xuelu discovered lamb for sale when she was shopping for ingredients with Xiao Tian.

As such, she brought back some lamb meat and organs. Her plan was to make a pot of mixed lamb soup.

Nothing can beat a bowl of spicy and numbing mixed lamb soup in weather like this.

She turned the lamb and organs into lamb soup and made some pita bread.

Patrons would have the options of pita bread in lamb soup. Those who weren’t as wealthy could just have a bowl of soup.

The soup would come with vermicelli, garlic sprouts, cilantro, and slice lamb with soup to top.

The soup would be rich and the lamb meat fatty but not overly so. It would smell aromatic and was wonderful to have with pita bread.

Before noon, East Wind Restaurant had a large pot placed in front of their store with the lamb soup cooking inside of it. When the wind blew, the aroma could travel for a long, long way.

Many did not plan on coming to dine in a restaurant. After all, most were not too wealthy in this day and age. The aroma was too domineering, however. It was fine when they didn’t smell it. Once they’ve smelled it, it was all over.

Especially those with children with them. The kids refused to leave until they have the soup once they have smelled it.

As such, there was a long line outside of the restaurant quickly.

A bowl of mixed lamb soup cost 2 meal tickets and 15 cents. A pita bread cost 10 cents. Any additional items would cost extra.

Some dined at the restaurant. Others brought their lunch boxes over for takeout.

On the first day that snowed, many were able to have a steaming bowl of mixed lamb soup.

The pepper was spicy and numbing and the green onion a bright green color. The lamb soup was rich and thick and the mixture of spiciness and savory could make one accidentally swallow one’s own tongue.

To top it all, one’s body would warm up afterward and no longer feel the cold.

The Tong family in the General Logistic Compound only found out through words of mouth afterward that Tong Xuelu had been promoted to the manager of a tier 1 restaurant and that she was the granddaughter of Commander Xiao.

The entire Tong’s fell silence when they heard that.

Tong Xuelu being the manager of a top tier restaurant was no big deal. They didn’t have to dine at her restaurant. But her being Commander Xiao’s granddaughter was shocking!

They would never have thought that she would have anything to do with someone like Commander Xiao!

The Tong’s work for the government but that only meant that they looked good to the others.

Father Tong would be retiring a year later and the two Tong’s brother were mediocre when it came to work. Their chances of being promoted was dismal.

Had they known that Tong Xuelu was Commander Xiao’s granddaughter, they would never have severed their relationship with her.

So much had happened to the Tong’s. Even the Fang’s had reached out to help them out but the Tong’s did nothing. They were quite embarrassed about wanting to smooch up to Tong Xuelu now.

Chen Yueling felt bad. She and her husband had wanted to help out Tong Xuelu but her mother-in-law wouldn’t let her. She wouldn’t even allow them to go visit.

Had her mother-in-law didn’t stop her from doing so, it would be a lot less embarrassing when they wanted to butter up to Tong Xuelu now.

With that thought, she couldn’t help but blame her mother-in-law for it.

Mother Tong had already given up at hating Tong Xuelu with her husband talking her out of it. She just pretended that she never had this adopted daughter.

From her perspective, Tong Xuelu and her siblings were orphans with burdens like the Tong family back home. As competent as she may be, she wouldn’t be able to go too far in life.

Mother Tong never expected things to go the way that they did. Not only was she Commander Xiao’s granddaughter but her boyfriend was Comrade Wan’s grandson!

Her expression was twisted when she thought about that and she started regretting about her own actions.

Had she not said what she did at the hospital, she would still have an amicable relationship with Tong Xuelu. Now, she didn’t even have a reason to reach back out to Tong Xuelu.
