Chapter 425 - Days among his grandchildren were just so awesome. (2)

Naturally, it was necessary to make dumplings on New Year’s eve.

And that was exactly what Commander Xiao was doing with is grandchildren.

After the stew pork feet were on the stove, Tong Xuelu went over to see how the dumplings were coming along.

As expected, with the exception of Tong Jiaming’s dumplings that still passable, all the other ones were just plain horrid.

Commander Xiao, in particular, his dumplings were about the same level as Tong Mianmian’s.

Noticing that Tong Xuelu was looking at him, Commander Xiao blushed all of a sudden. “I have never done it before. All I need is a little more practice.”

In the past, he had either spent New Year in the troop or at his brother’s.

His brother and his nephews were very nice to him and always welcomed him over. Nevertheless, the cozier their place was, the lonelier it made him feel.

After a few years, he started using the troop as an excuse to avoid going over there.

Everything was different now. He has his own family now!

Tong Xuelu smiled and said, “It’s all good. We will each have the ones that we’ve made.”

As soon as she said that, Commander Xiao and Tong Jiaxin both stiffened.

Even Tong Mianmian widened her eyes. It was quite hilarious.

Commander Xiao cleared his throat and said, “Oh right, did you say that your boyfriend will be coming over tomorrow?”

Tong Xuelu’s lips curved upward when they talked about Wen Rugui. “That’s right. He will be coming over with Grandpa Wen tomorrow.”

She had been very busy before the New Year and barely had any time to meet up with Wen Rugui even after he had returned. Most of the time, they could only see each other briefly at her restaurant before she had to head to the other hotel to cook.

Luckily, she was off duty now and they could finally spend some time with each other.

Commander Xiao was not very pleased when he heard that. He didn’t exactly raise this granddaughter of his, but he somehow still felt that the cabbage at his house had been taken away by a pig.

Nevertheless, as he was a half-ass grandfather and Tong Xuelu was a very strong willed girl, there wasn’t a lot that he could say.

The only thing that he could do was to wait for the Wen’s grandfather and grandson to be over tomorrow so he could give him a “hard time”.

The same topic was also going on over at the Wen’s.

Old Mr. Wen, “Xiao Zong, are everything that we are bringing with us over to the Tong’s ready?”

Uncle Zong nodded. “Yes, everything is ready. You don’t need to worry about a thing, Commander.”

Old Mr. Wen tightened his lips. “Oh, I am not worried. I am just eager to go and enjoy Xuelu’s cooking. Your cooking is too awful.”

Uncle Zong, “…..”

Wen Rugui did not say anything.

The thought of being able to meet up with Tong Xuelu the next day filled his heart. Even his expression had mellowed up.

Tong Xuelu made a tableful of yummy food and everybody was stuffed to the brim with the food and the dumplings.

After the New Year’s eve dinner, Tong Xuelu also made some biscuits and red date cakes for the guests tomorrow.

Wen Rugui loved her red date cakes so she made a lot of them.

When they were ready, she brought some out for her family to try first.

Tong Jiaming and the siblings had gone over to the Wei’s next door and Commander Xiao was the only one left in the living room.

Tong Xuelu walked inside with the biscuits and red date cake and asked, “Grandpa, I’ve made these myself. Would you like to try some?”

Commander Xiao took and look at them and shook his head. “No, thank you. I am not a fan of sweets.”

Real men never eat sweets.

Tong Xuelu put the plate down on the table. “Okay. We will save them for Mianmian and the others then.”

Commander Xiao nodded. “Oh right. Would you like to join the military? If so, I can get you in.”

Tong Xuelu thought about it some and shook her head. “No, I prefer cooking.”

Once the economy opened up, she still wanted to get into business. She was not interested in the miliary or politics.

Commander Xiao was a little disappointed when he heard that but he expressed that he understood and respected her decision.

Tong Xuelu chatted with him a little more before she returned to the kitchen to prepare other snacks.

Commander Xiao was, once again, alone in the living room.

He hadn’t planned on trying the snacks but he kept smelling the biscuits and the candies and he was gulping.

Seeing that there was nobody outside, he reached for a biscuit.

The biscuit was very crispy and crunched when he bit into it. His mouth was filled with fragrance after he swallowed the bite.

It was quite good.

He wondered what the red date cake taste like.

He reached for a piece.

The red date cake was a little sweet but, with the aroma of red date and walnut, the more he chewed, the better it tasted.

That, too, was quite good.

Half an hour later, when Tong Jiaxin returned to pick up his slingshot, he picked up a piece of biscuits when he saw it.

Tong Xuelu happened to walk inside and was stunned after just a quick look. “Jiaxin, how could you eat all of the biscuits and the red date cakes? At least save some for your brother and Mianmian.”

What the……

Tong Jiaxin cried out, “Big Sister, I only had one piece of biscuit. One piece!”

Tong Xuelu said quizzically, “But you are the only one who had been here. Who else could have eaten them?”

Tong Jiaxin continued to stress about his innocence, “It wasn’t me. I am telling you!”

Who else could that be if it wasn’t Tong Jiaxin?

Grandpa said he didn’t like sweets so it couldn’t be him, right?

Tong Xuelu couldn’t quite figure it out nor did she care enough to.

Commander Xiao, who was humming and sweeping away snow in the backyard smacked his lips.

Days among his grandchildren were just so awesome.
