Lily lifted her gaze to Anastasia and smiled. "I'm not sure. Your aunt might know better since she’s the
one who hired him."
Anastasia wanted to ask a few more questions, but Maria's shrill voice came from outside the door, “Of
course I do!" She strode in, looking upset.
When she entered the door, she stared at Lily and said with a sigh, "Mr. Fike is Dominic Fike's secret
apprentice. Mrs. Russell, as someone who has married well and has good looks, you have no idea
what my niece is going through. I took a lot of effort to bring the miracle doctor here, yet you made him
leave in a fit!"
Lily chuckled. "Ma'am, if I remember correctly, this happens to be my house. Do I need approval in
deciding who to invite and who I don't wish to see?”
‘I have yet to ask her why she brought someone else in without my permission, and she dares to
question me instead!’
"You..." Thinking she could not direct her anger at Lily, Maria decided to vent it on Anastasia. She took
a few steps forward and seized her niece's hand. "Tasia, come home with me!"
Anastasia was dumbfounded and frowned. "I don't want to leave yet.”
"What are you saying? It took much to hire the miracle doctor, yet you've upset him! Go home. You
used to be a good girl! Why have you suddenly changed so much? Has someone led you astray?
There are all kinds of people out there. Don't blindly listen to what they say!”
Maria tried to pull her niece up as she spoke. However, Anastasia was heavy and obese. The young
woman did not move a bit, no matter how hard Maria tried.
‘That woman is insinuating I'm the one to blame.’
Lily lowered her gaze, revealed a half-smile, and did not argue with Maria.
It was Anastasia who got upset instead. "Don't talk nonsense, Aunt Maria! Lily is my friend, and I can’t
let you accuse her like this. Besides, over the years, you and my father had hired many miracle
doctors, but what did they accomplish?
"I know you mean well, but stop wasting your energy. I’m not seeing any miracle doctor, and all I want
is to stay a bit longer at my friend's house."
Exhausted and out of breath, Maria knew she could not pull her niece along and could only let her go.
Maria changed her tactic and cried. “How could you say that? How could I let you be? Your mother died
young and left behind no one else but you. With your father tied up with work, how could your uncle
and I not care for you?
‘Your uncle and I are responsible for what you've become. Every girl your age has a boyfriend. If you
weren't so big, you wouldn't have a problem getting a boyfriend, would you? Now you can't even get a
date!”
Anastasia looked ashamed after hearing her aunt's words.
Maria continued to sob as if she had not noticed her niece's expression." As an innocent child, you
don't understand how evil a person could be and naively believe her sweet talk. You have no idea that
we are the ones who genuinely care about you!
"I worked hard to get you the miracle doctor, yet she chased him away. Still, you think she cares about
you? If she truly wants you to get better, she would care about your health and not mislead you to stuff
yourself."
Lily did not like such rowdiness. She held her throbbing temples and lifted her eyelids when she heard
Maria's wailing. “Sorry to interrupt. Who are you accusing of misleading Tasia to stuff herself?"
Maria stopped crying and shot an angry and resentful glare at Lily. "Why are you looking at me? I was
talking about you!"
