“Does...”
“The medicine only helps balance your bodily functions and replenish your energy and vitality. It doesn’t
counteract the virus, so don’t expect too much!” Feeding him the medicine, Dominic said, “I’m no god,
and I can’t yet figure out what’s going on within you. I won’t be able to come up with a cure so soon,
okay?”
Austin remained quiet and drank the medicine. He knew Dominic could not have come up with a cure
so quickly, if he could at all. He did not want to put too much faith in him for fear of being disappointed.
However, he was glad Dominic was being friendly to him. After feeding Austin, Dominic looked at him
while holding the empty bowl, and sighed. "We don't know what's inside you yet, but you know how bad
the pandemic has gotten. For your safety, stay here for the time being. Of course, you can’t move even
if you want to. Let me... think of something.”
He sounded angry when he said the last sentence.
“Thank...” Before Austin could say “you,” he saw Dominic stalk out of the room.
A dead silence returned. However, lying there, he felt calmer than he had ever experienced before.
The light was always on in the laboratories. Since the staff worked in shifts around the clock, it was
hard to tell if it was day or night without checking the time.
However, people inevitably get tired sometimes. Even with strong willpower, one could make a mistake
or doze off doing such a demanding job. During moments like that, one’s mental state is relaxed.
Lily paced to and fro in her room. It was an ordinary and straightforward suite with a bed and blanket.
She could even take a nap there. The difference was that the door was locked, and she could not go
out.
Not wanting to sleep, she walked about with her hand holding her hip as if waiting for something.
A gentle knock came from outside, and the door opened. Standing at the doorway, the visitor came
face-to-face with her as she turned.
“Why aren’t you resting?” he asked with a frown.
“I am. Exercising is a type of relaxation.” Smiling, she did not look distressed about being locked up
and was calm.
Coming inside, the person turned around and looked outside, then shut the door.
No longer pacing around, Lily asked, ‘“How’s Debbie?”
“Her condition is stable. Fortunately, the poisoning is not serious, and the toxin has been cleared. Also,
the lab report shows that her indicators are getting back to normal. You're right. She has… recovered.”
Although she had expected it, Lily was relieved to hear him say so.
She let out a relaxed look as she sat on a chair beside her and lightly pounded her back.
“But... would that person truly do something?” Although most of what she said had turned out to be
true, he could not help but doubt her words.
After all, that individual had worked with him the longest.
