"I mean, as an aunt, I haven't bought a gift for my nephew yet."
Melissa grabbed Lucas and covered his mouth, then pulling him out.
"I'll take him out and buy a present for him."
As Melissa was speaking, she dragged Lucas out.
Lucas looked a little impatient and he directly stopped her.
"Stop."
Before Melissa could understand what was going on, Lucas had pressed her onto the door frame by
his catching and grappling skills.
"I forgot to tell you not to touch me."
Lucas directly pushed her away and then cast a look at Nicole, saying, "Excuse me, Mommy. I'm going
to pack my things. Grandpa Mark is coming soon."
"Alright. Aren’t you going to eat anything?"
"Nope. Grandpa Mark said we would eat in the military area."
Lucas glanced at Dad Bush with a meaningful look in his eyes.
Dad Bush's face was red, but no one knew it was because of anger or embarrassment.
"Well, Nicole, have the clothes been prepared? Hurry and get Melissa changed. Mr. Seuss doesn’t
have much time, so we can’t be late."
Dad Bush wished he could leave right this second, but he had to wait for Melissa.
Nicole did not know why Dad Bush went red, but she guessed it should have something to do with
Melissa, judged from how she treated Lucas earlier.
However, Nicole could no longer care about so much now.
She handed the clothes in her hand to Melissa.
It was a plain and delicate dress, the latest style of this year.
Melissa once saw this dress in a magazine, but she couldn't afford it. Now receiving it from Nicole, she
felt pleased but also a bit jealous.
If she had grown up in the Bush family from the beginning, perhaps all of these would have belonged to
her now.
Melissa took the dress and went back to her room without thanking Nicole.
When there were only Dad Bush and Nicole in the living room, he felt extremely embarrassed.
"Nicole, I'm sorry to bother you. Melissa has a bad temper, since she grew up in an orphanage and was
always bullied there. Please don't mind her bad temper."
"Of course not."
Nicole nodded in agreement.
She really wanted to give Dad Bush the painting, but she was afraid that it would hurt his feelings if she
did it now.
After thinking for a moment, Nicole took out a card and handed it to him.
"Dad, a friend of mine does want to get a painting of yours. Could you spare some time to draw one?
You know, I rarely ask for anything from you, but this friend means much to me and I intend to send
your painting as a gift to him. So, could you draw one for the sake of me? And there is five million in
this card. You can accept it as a down payment, and I’ll pay you the rest part if my friend likes your
painting. Okay? I know, you like drawing and you won’t sell your paintings for a living. But could you do
me a favor this time? "
Nicole was asking sincerely, which made Dad Bush hard to refuse her.
Looking at the card in his hand and throwing a glance at Nicole, he felt as he was in a dilemma.
The Bush family had been experiencing a tough time these years. Besides, he took the advice of
someone else and invested in some stocks, but his investment failed. Now the Bush family was no
longer that loaded. If it wasn't Samuel who often helped them, he didn't know how their life would be.
If it was just them, the old couple, who had to suffer this, it wouldn't be a big deal. But they had their
own daughter now, Melissa, who had had a hard time away from them. They would feel so sorry to let
her go through the hard time with them.
Nicole is rich, but Dad Bush couldn't give up his dignity to beg her for money.
Now that Nicole offered him a face-saving way out of this, he should have seized the opportunity. But
he still couldn't give up his pride to take it.
Nicole naturally knew who Dad Bush was. She directly gave the card to him and whispered, "Melissa
wants to learn to play the violin from Mr. Seuss, who wouldn't accept a student easily. So you should
send him a present. Right? I know you wouldn't like to do that, but it's for the sake of Melissa. If she
can be the last student of Mr. Seuss, she'll become visible in the upper class. What do you think?"
Nicole's concern for Melissa finally convinced Dad Bush.
What he always insisted on in the past seemed to be far less important than his own daughter.
He was aged and he had tried so hard to cultivate Nicole and gave her everything he had when he
thought she was his own daughter. However, he ended up finding Nicole wasn't his daughter and he
did all that in vain. Nicole did treat them well, but he and his wife still wanted a child of their own.
They had already found Melissa back, but what they could give her was way too less, not even a good
living environment. So they thought of Nicole. They intended to ask Nicole to give Melissa a bright
future, which they knew was too much. They couldn't do it directly but send Melissa to her place.
Dad Bush knew that Nicole must have known their thoughts. Instead, she didn't say it out loud. And
she also kept Melissa as they wanted. Dad Bush suddenly thought himself too shameless.
He was somewhat unable to face Nicole.
"Well, I'm going out for a smoke. Lucas said you were pregnant, I shouldn't smoke here."
Dad Bush stood up and walked out. He finally put the card into his pocket after a moment of hesitation.
Seeing him receive the card, Nicole heaved a sigh of relief.
Nicole did know what the Bush couple was thinking. However, they raised her up and tried so hard to
cultivate her, so she would do as they asked in her way as long as they didn’t go way too further.
After all, the last thing the Green family and she cared about was money.
When Melissa came out of her room, she frowned slightly for not seeing Dad Bush.
"Where is he?"
Looking at Melissa in that dress, Nicole had to admit that Melissa did carry on the good appearance
from Dad Bush.
Melissa really would give others the image of a lady from a noble family when she was silent.
Nicole pointed the outside, saying, "He is smoking outside."
"Smoking again?"
Melissa frowned deeper.
"I'm leaving, and I don't know when I'll be back. Remember to leave me some food for lunch."
Nicole nodded.
"I’ll ask Wendy to cook something for you exclusively when you come back at noon."
"You won’t have lunch at home?"
Looking at Nicole, Melissa asked in surprise, "Where are you going? Nicole, don't keep going out.
Could you please take me with you when you go out? I feel so bored to stay at home alone."
"I'm going to the hospital to see the children. I don't know when I’ll be back. You can have lunch by
yourself first. I'll take you out when I’m not that occupied."
Nicole knew the thoughts of the Bush couple, and she would do as they asked. However, she wouldn’t
know whether Melissa would really make it.
Hearing the words of Nicole, Melissa felt satisfied.
"Okay. I got it. Hurry and deal with your things. I don’t wanna wait too long."
Nicole didn't reply to her this time, and she looked kind of impatient.
Seeing that Dad Bush still hadn’t come back, Melissa walked out unhappily.
After Melissa left, Nicole went to the kitchen and cooked some food in person before taking it to the
hospital.
Zac was working for Samuel. When Petty was about to go back, she met Nicole at the entrance of the
hospital.
"Mrs. Green, why are you here? Mr. Green told me to go back and keep you company."
"I'm here to see the children. And I’m fine."
Nicole handed the thermos pot to Petty and whispered, "Take it to the children and let them enjoy it
first. I'm going to see Cara. I’m worried about her injury."
"I've checked on Cara and she’s recovering well, but she still can't walk. Maybe after a hundred days
she’ll make it."
Petty took the thermos pot as she was saying.
Nicole had known it would take Cara a long period to recover from her injury.
Looking at Nicole, Petty hesitated to ask her, "Mrs. Green, Cara is injured. You’re in need of another
dietitian to fill the vacancy. Mr. Green also said that he would find one in the job center. But why did you
only hire Wendy, a part-time servant? We can afford a full-time dietitian, can’t we?"
"I don't like too many people around me. We’ll discuss it when Cara gets well."
Petty couldn’t say anything else due to Nicole’s refusal.
She nodded and then took the thermos pot to Joseph's ward, while Nicole went to Cara's.
Cara was reading a book when Nicole came in, so she quickly struggled to sit.
"Mrs. Green, why are you here?"
"Lie down. Don’t bother to do that. I’ll find a seat myself."
Nicole stopped Cara in a hurry.
"Mrs. Green, your visit kind of surprised me, since you’re not in good health yourself."
Cara scratched the back of her head, and she looked a little embarrassed.
The sight of Cara swept away Nicole's gloomy mood.
Cara’s eyes were really bright and clear.
"You don’t have to be surprised. You got injured because of me, so I have to visit you. You were
reading a book. What is it?"
Nicole asked which book Cara was reading by the way when she saw her holding a book.
Cara handed the book to Nicole and said, "It’s about how to be a dietician. I plan to study it during my
recovery and get a dietitian's license. It would be so embarrassing to be your personal dietitian without
a license. Doctor Morgan has been teaching me."
"She’s been teaching you?"
It kind of surprised Nicole.
She knew what Morgan's temper was like and Cara seemed to have known it too.
"Then you must study hard, since it’s not that easy to be the student of Satan King easily."
"Sure."
Cara nodded seriously.
Knowing that Cara was in good condition, Nicole chatted with her for a bit longer. When she was about
to leave, she saw a poppy pattern on the notebook of Cara.
She stopped her steps.
"What does that pattern mean?"
Nicole did not expect to see the poppy pattern there.
Cara followed Nicole's gaze and she realized that Nicole was looking at her notebook.
"It’s a poppy and it’s beautiful. Right? Dr. Morgan sent me the notebook. I liked the notebook when I
saw the poppy pattern on it for the first time. Do you like it either, Mrs. Green?" She said hurriedly.
Nicole's heart missed a beat at the moment.
Morgan?
Why did Morgan have a notebook with a poppy pattern on it?
Was it a coincidence?
Or did Morgan have anything to do with this poppy organization?
Nicole frowned tightly and she suddenly felt as if everything about her was
bewildering.
