Nicole wanted to look but Davon stopped her by quickly saying, “Don’t look anymore, let’s go.”
Nicole was rushed out of the room by Davon. Davon slammed the door as they went out.
Nicole began to be overwhelmed by fear and her mind was blank. When she saw Davon closing the
door, she yelled, “Morgan is still inside!”
“She can handle it! And only she can handle it!” Davon’s back was now covered with sweat. This was
the first time in years that he had been so terrified. Had he reacted a moment later or if Nicole did not
go with him, he would not have found out that there was something wrong with that maid’s stomach
and now he would be a pile of bones.
Nicole was gripped with fear and continued to recall the incident that just happened. The maid’s
stomach suddenly burst open and countless red worms emerged from her stomach. The worms had
literally freaked her out.
The worms crawled swiftly and would latch themselves onto any living thing. In just a short matter of
seconds, the leg of the chair was totally devoured.
It was easy for Nicole to imagine what would happen if the worms managed to get onto a person. She
could not help but be worried for Morgan. Could Morgan really cope with it?
There were so many worms, what if one was to infect Morgan? What would she do?
Nicole wanted to return for a look but was stopped forcibly stopped by Davon.
“Have faith in Morgan. If she can’t deal with them, then we will all die here.” Davon did not exaggerate.
Nicole immediately turned pale from fear.
“What are those worms? Why are they so frightening?” Nicole asked as she trembled fearfully.
Davon said softly, “That’s Tomb Bride.”
“What?” Nicole exclaimed.
“Those worms are known as Tomb Bride. I read about it in some ancient manuals. In the past, there
were used to prevent the corpse and coffin from being stolen. I didn’t expect to see it here.”
Nicole was stunned when she heard what Davon said.
“So what are they?” Nicole asked again.
“They can be considered as parasites and are reared by man. These Tomb Brides are very hardy, and
they love the cold and damp environment. Once they encounter a living thing, they would burrow into
the bloodstream and then attack the internal organs until the body is hollow. You saw for yourself how
fine the worms are. They are very difficult to spot.”
Davon shared whatever he knew about Tomb Bride with Nicole. Nicole was still shaking in fear from the
encounter and remarked, “That’s terrifying.”
“Yes!” Davon agreed. It was a long time since he was so frightened. He had read about the existence
of Tomb Bride but never seen it. It was equally a shock to him. Had he known that there could be Tomb
Bride in the room, he would never have let Nicole enter it.
What a close shave! He chastised himself for risking his sister’s life. Davon was shaken by the
encounter but was thankful that Morgan was here. He was also happy that Samuel was concerned
about Nicole. Otherwise, the day would end tragically for them.
As for Nicole, she pondered far beyond Davon, “Davon, did you say that these Tomb Brides are
supposed to guard the tomb and corpse?”
“Yes,” Davon answered with a nod.
Nicole thought about swollen maid’s body and then said, “That meant that the maid had already died
and her body was infested with Tomb Brides. What I saw was a hollow body. The main target of the
whole thing must be Laurence! He wanted Laurence dead!”
Davon paused and then nodded in agreement, “Laurence’s blood is unique. Once the Tomb Bride
attacks Laurence, he would be totally devoured. Due to the uniqueness of Laurence’s blood, Tomb
Bride would not spread beyond him. So he was the only target of the whole thing.”
What Davon said caused Nicole to frown and continued, “If Laurence was the only target, then was it
necessary to use such a deadly parasite? Wasn’t Nick dead? Is there someone else who could breed
these parasites?” This was Nicole’s major concern.
Davon frowned deeply and then said, “We need to look further into this.”
Suddenly the door opened and startled both Nicole and Davon. They were relieved to see Morgan still
in good shape.
“Morgan, are you alright?” Nicole stepped forward and noticed that Morgan was looking slightly pale.
Morgan nodded and replied, “I’m fine. There was a lot of Tomb Bride and it was difficult to get rid of
them. How did these get here?”
“I would like to find out as well.” Davon was frustrated that this had happened.
Morgan said softly, “These bugs do not like the sun and that corpse had been dead for at least five
days.” Nicole and Davon were not surprised by what Morgan said.
“But if it was dead for at least five days, then how come the body looked as if it wasn’t dead?” Nicole
asked.
Morgan looked at Nicole and explained, “That’s the characteristics of the Tomb Bride. It would make
the corpse look as if it wasn’t dead until it multiplied sufficiently, and the body was about to explode.
Only then could you tell the difference.”
Nicole was surprised by this. Though she did not understand much about parasites, she was shocked
that the parasite could have such abilities.
“Morgan, where do you think these bugs originated from?” Nicole asked.
“Perhaps Harper Town’s parasite breeding technique or something out of the ancient manuals.” Nicole
paused for a moment on hearing this.
When Lucas discovered an ancient manual, no one expected that it contained such information. Where
was this ancient manual now? Nicole guessed that it must be with Trevin. Could the mastermind be
Trevin? No, that was impossible! Nicole immediately banished this possibility.
Morgan looked at Nicole and said, “Madam, I read that ancient manual, so did Mr. Samuel and Trevin.
However, there was another person who read it.”
“Who?” Nicole looked curiously at Morgan.
Morgan hesitated but said, “Cara. Cara had also read the manual.”
Nicole suddenly felt a chill ran down her spine.
Cara? Could it be her? Why did she want Laurence dead? Nicole became upset at the possibility that
Cara was the cause of Laurence’s problems. She was infuriated!
“It couldn’t be her!” Nicole said suddenly but she knew that she could not convince herself of that.
