Yasmeen was overbearing and sounded murderous. Penny got scared.
She quickly walked up and stood in front of her mother. She said in a sharp and terrified voice, “What
are you trying to do? Lucas is part of the army, you’ll make him lose face like this.”
“Wow, you’re calling his name so familiarly, even though you know that he has a girlfriend. So, you
want to be a mistress and you’re telling the whole world about it. What has the world come to? Or it is
just you and your thick skin?”
Yasmeen’s voice was rather loud, she attracted some onlookers.
Penny face turned hot and red.
“You, how can you talk so vulgarly? Why is a nice person like Lucas dating someone like you?”
“And? What kind of girl should he be dating? A fake person like you?”
Yasmeen scorned at what Penny said.
What a joke.
She courted Lucas for twenty years and finally got together with him. Why would she let him go just
because of a few things said by a nobody?
She wasn’t even afraid of Michele, why would she be afraid of Penny?
Penny almost fainted out of shame upon hearing what Yasmeen said. She wanted to continue her
pathetic act, but then a clear voice could be heard.
“Yasmeen is right, we would like our daughter-in-law to be a proud person like her.”
Nicole sauntered towards them and Samuel walked behind Nicole coolly.
Yasmeen’s face immediately changed. She walked up all smiling.
“Mr. and Mrs. Green, you guys have arrived.”
Penny looked in Yasmeen direction. Two proud looking middle age people were walking towards them.
They were middle-aged, but the man was handsome, and the woman was beautiful. Age didn’t leave
much of a mark on their faces. They looked very sophisticated.
Penny grabbed her mother’s hand uneasily.
Her mother squinted her eyes upon noticing the way they were dressed.
Nicole and Samuel had an adoring look in their eyes when they looked at Yasmeen.
“Yasmeen, how’s Lucas doing?”
“He’s still in the emergency room. His back is burnt because the gas caused an explosion. His wound
might be infected, and his recovery might take some time. Mrs. Green, I’m so sorry. It is because of me
that…”
“It’s alright, Lucas is tough. He’s not as weak as you think. Don’t be too worried, I know I’m not.”
Even though Nicole said so, she still glanced worriedly at the emergency room.
How could she not be worried about her son?
Samuel walked up and lightly tapped on Nicole’s shoulder, “It’s going to be alright, don’t worry.”
“Okay.”
Only after that, they looked at Penny and her mother.
Samuel had a really sharp gaze. He was emitting so much pressure that Penny almost lost her
balance. Her mother was getting nervous as well.
He wouldn’t be nice to deal with.
Her mother was thinking about what to say when Nicole suddenly said.
“Who are you guys? What kind of relationship do you have with my son?”
Nicole already knew who they were. Nicole felt quite sorry and remorseful towards them in the
beginning since the daughter did get hurt because of Lucas’ mistake. But she didn’t think that they
would be like this afterwards.
The girl even wanted to force her son to marry her.
Penny felt a bit startled seeing that Nicole was staring at her. She took a step backwards
subconsciously and said in a low voice, “My name is Penny. I’m the hostage that Lucas rescued.”
“I thought you got hurt because of my son’s mistake. Don’t you hate him?”
Nicole was talking nonchalantly, but for some reason it made Penny feel pressured.
Penny quickly shook her head and said, “How could I! He’s in the army. He only took the shot because
he wanted to protect us, citizens. I got hurt, but I’m still very grateful.”
It sounded like an official discourse.
Nicole smiled sarcastically, but her smile soon vanished.
She understood what was going on. Penny found out about Lucas’ family background and was trying to
scheme something.
Before this, Nicole was worried that no one would want to date her son. But having someone like this
pursuing Lucas was even worse.
Nicole’s face turned grim, she said, “Since it was my son’s fault to start with, we wouldn’t treat you
unfairly without any compensation.”
“I don’t want money. Mrs. Green, I really admire Lucas. I don’t mean anything else.”
What Penny said made Nicole frown. Nicole replied, “Do you really admire him? But maybe you should
give up. My son grew up together with Yasmeen. They have a good relationship. Even though it was
his mistake that you got hurt, but I don’t think that he would give up Yasmeen just so that he could
marry you. The reimbursement from us can be of any kind. You are still recovering and shouldn’t be
standing here for too long. Do head back to your ward and get some rest, we can discuss later.”
Nicole was practically shooing them away.
Her mother wasn’t happy about where this conversation was going.
Nicole was emitting the aura of an elite. Before this, her mother wasn’t sure if Lucas really came from a
rich family. But now, she was certain.
But because of this confirmation, she felt even more bitter.
So what?
So, what if they had power and money?
Nicole was looking at them as if they were some leeches and wanted to fling them away as soon as
possible.
Her mother thought that Nicole was looking down on them because they were poor.
Her mother grabbed Penny’s hand and said, “Let’s go back to the ward! They hate that us poor
peasants are standing here next to them. They also probably think that we are demanding an
exorbitant. No need to continue staying here and be someone without a backbone.”
Nicole was about to burst upon hearing her mother. She held it back because she wanted to give them
some face, but Yasmeen didn’t.
“Your daughter grew a backbone to steal someone else’s boyfriend. That’s not something you should
be proud of.”
“What did you say?”
Her mother had a horrible look on her face.
Seeing that her mother was about to fight with Yasmeen, Penny rolled her eyes and fainted.
Nicole knew that Penny was faking it, but she didn’t bother to point it out. She said to a nurse who was
standing by the side, “Quick, bring Miss Penny back to her ward. Check if her wound reopened. She is
a precious guest of the Green family, take real good care of her. Ensure her recovery no matter at what
cost.”
She accurately expressed the saying “he who has wealth speaks louder than others”.
Her mother said that she was abusing her power and looking down on others.
So, she showed them how money talks worked.
The mother and daughter weren’t kind-hearted people. They were trying to gain themselves a good
reputation by mocking the Green family, even after taking the compensation money from them.
Samuel agreed with his wife’s decision. The nurses got to their work.
Yasmeen knew what Nicole was trying to do and hence she didn’t stop her. Instead, she grabbed
Nicole’s hand and made her sit down.
“Mrs. Green, please take a seat. It might be a while until Lucas comes out from the emergency room.”
Right after she said that a troop of people were seen rushing towards them.
