"Deal!"
Morty made the decision straight away, which surprised Joseph.
He was so bold, and it was no wonder he was the successor of the Hill family.
The three of them had a good talk and Lucas was even happier. He would not be alone in the army
anymore.
Joseph looked at Eaton, and when he saw how thin he had become in just a few days, and after
examining his body, his gentle eyes suddenly went much colder.
"The Shaffer family! Damn it!"
Joseph had rarely hated a person so much.
Ever since Nicole and Samuel had taken him in as their own son, since having his younger brothers,
Joseph had been changing, and he was even more aware of the heavy burden on his shoulders. But
now Daddy and Mummy were away, and he didn't take care of his brothers.
Joseph couldn't help but blame himself for it.
As if he knew what he was thinking, Lucas patted him on the shoulder and said, "It's not your fault. We
will grow up, but those people will grow old. Sooner or later, the world will be ours."
"But I can't let anything else happen to my family. What about Grandpa?"
Lucas shook his head.
No one knew where Xander had gone. His whereabouts were so erratic that even Morty's people
couldn't find him, let alone the Shaffer family.
"I'm going out."
Joseph went out the door.
Morty wanted to have someone follow him, but Joseph refused.
Lucas was afraid that something would happen to him, so he followed him.
Joseph did not refuse this time.
As the two children walked out of the Hill family, Lucas asked, "Brother, where are you going?"
"To find Grandpa."
"You know where Grandpa is?"
Lucas couldn't help but be a little surprised.
Joseph shook his head and said, "I think I should be able to find him."
"What?"
Lucas was a little surprised.
Could it be that Grandpa had some special contact that he told Joseph about?
Seeing Lucas's inquiring look, Joseph suddenly smiled.
"What are you thinking? I just thought maybe I could follow my method to find Grandpa."
"Your method? What method?"
Lucas was simply like a curious baby now.
It was rare for Joseph to see Lucas so frustrated and he couldn't help but smile even more.
"Come on, brother, tell me."
Lucas punched him but he dodged it.
"Oops, how dare you dodge?"
Lucas instantly rolled up his sleeves and quickly went after him.
Although Joseph had been studying medicine for the past few years, he hadn't left behind his physical
exercise. At once, he and Lucas were chasing each other down the street.
Michele sat in the car and saw a different Lucas for the first time.
He always kept a distance from outsiders. She knew Lucas was good to her and took care of her, but it
was different from being with his family now.
With his family, he was easygoing, playful, and as happy as any other person his age.
Michele's eyes were a little downcast.
Seeing Michele like this, the driver couldn't help but ask, "Miss, would you like to go up and say hello to
Mr. Lucas?"
"No need. Come on, let's go home."
Michele shook her head.
Did she want to be Lucas's family?
Of course, Michele was envious, but she didn't know if she could get that far.
It was better to let nature take its course.
Lucas, unaware that he was being watched, chased and fought with Joseph to the suburbs.
After arriving in the suburbs, Lucas saw that it was not far from the Shaffer family's training ground and
couldn't help but tell Joseph.
Joseph narrowed his eyes slightly and suddenly smiled a little slyly.
"What do you think is down here?"
"I'm not sure. Grandpa knew, but he didn't let anyone in and just said it was a research room down
there. And that's where Auntie Cara was found."
Lucas got a little exasperated talking about it.
Joseph leaned over and whispered something in Lucas's ear, and Lucas was instantly happy.
"That's a good idea."
Joseph took a small bottle out of his pocket and handed it to Lucas, then said with a smile, "Let’s try
this."
"Let's have a little game. I didn't even know how much of a gap there was between us after we got
separated from the military. I've also heard that you've been training. Let's see who's faster?"
"Sure."
Joseph had little repulsion to Lucas's challenge.
The two set off at the same time, and ran towards the Shaffer family’s training ground, with one left and
one right.
Both boys were fast, yet particularly agile.
Lucas threw the small bottle in his hand towards the northern entrance of the training ground.
Joseph, on the other hand, threw it down at the southern entrance.
Almost at the same time, the two retreated quickly and then ran quickly towards the starting point.
The two reached the starting point at almost the same time.
Lucas was a little surprised.
He had thought that Joseph's training was effective, but he had not expected Joseph's speed to be on
a par with his, and he had gone through special training at the base.
For a moment, Lucas felt a little bad.
Was he not even a match for Joseph now?
Joseph could be so strict with himself even when he was not at the base, but what about him?
He was enjoying the resources, but was no better than Joseph.
Lucas's brow furrowed at the thought.
As if he could guess what was on his mind, Joseph whispered, "You're still young. There's still plenty of
room for us to grow. Don't get discouraged, I'm always waiting for you to surpass me."
It was not that long ago when Joseph was a fat kid who could do nothing but eat, and who followed
Lucas around all day calling him "boss". It had only been a few years and he had actually grown so
much.
Lucas looked like crap. He was angry with himself for not trying hard enough and even happier to have
such a wonderful brother.
He didn’t know when Joseph had stopped being his errand boy, but he had really become a big brother
and did his best in everything. Lucas knew how much work and sweat he had put in behind the scenes,
and the way Joseph was doing it gave him a sense of urgency to catch up.
"Don't worry. Next time, I'll be faster than you."
"I'll wait."
As the two men talked and laughed, they heard coughing sounds coming from inside the Shaffer
family’s training ground. It didn't take long for a thick black smoke to rise up into the sky from inside.
Lucas instantly understood.
Last time, it was because of Xander's obstruction that the Shaffer family was able to survive. Now that
the smoke was rising, and firefighters would come over quickly. By then, once the reporters had
publicized it, it would take time for the Shaffer family to suppress it.
Lucas quickly called the police and even called the TV station.
He used hacking technology so that they couldn't look up the phone number. Once it was over, Joseph
pulled Lucas aside and hid.
"Do you think Grandpa will come?"
Lucas was a little less sure.
But Joseph nodded and said, "Yes. Last time, Grandpa was here and Cody Shaffer was very scared.
Although I don't know where Grandpa is now, I'm sure he's keeping an eye on the Shaffer family’s
training ground. So now that the smoke is rising, Grandpa will definitely come over to see what's going
on."
As he was speaking, a man scurried over quickly. He was so fast that Joseph and Lucas' eyes went
straight.
