“Yes! I promise you!”
Xander spoke solemnly, which caused Nicole to freeze for a moment.
Neither the people from the military, Samuel, Tim, nor Olivia, could find Jacob, but now Xander said so
firmly that he could find him, making Nicole feel puzzled.
“Dad, is there something you’re hiding from me and Mom?”
“It’s for your own good that Dad doesn’t say anything. You’ll know it when it’s time. Just listen to me, no
matter what happens in the future, don’t force your way out, understand?”
Xander’s advice made Nicole somewhat unable to agree.
She had too many responsibilities to bear, so naturally, she couldn’t agree with it. But looking at
Xander’s expectant eyes, she still nodded slightly.
The two talked a lot more, and finally, Nicole fell asleep unconsciously.
Xander felt reluctant looking at Nicole’s sleeping.

After that, Xander draped his jacket over Nicole’s body and leaned down to give her a kiss on the
forehead before turning around and walking out.
It was dark outside, but in Xander’s eyes there seemed to be a red glow suddenly.
That glowing was indeed frightening, and it was precisely the same as when Laurence went berserk!
As soon as his eyes glowed, there were a few howls in the darkness, and several black shadows leapt

Audrey was still sleeping, raising the corners of her lips like she had a sweet dream.
Perhaps she was thinking about where to go after Xander retired, or maybe it was because her wish of
so many years had finally come true, so even her dreams were beautiful.
Xander felt guilty looking at Audrey’s happy look.
“Audrey, I’m sorry I can’t accompany you all the way. In the future, you have to be strong without me by
your side. I know that all you want in your life is love, but apart from love, we are still children and
parents. We can’t be so selfish, right?”
Xander sat beside her and gently held her hand, whispering, “In fact, I have a secret that I have never
told you. Now that you are about to know this secret, just let me hide for a few more days. I owe you
too much in this life. I wish I can accompany you even when we are old, travel with you around the
world, be your only follower, admirer and guardian. But Audrey, I’m a father too. Nicole’s child is

kidnapping our families for their own selfish desires. Such people in a high position are an

nor pretending I know nothing about it. So Audrey, forgive me. I love you, but I also love the children.
You’re not well and you have to take care of yourself from now on. I will be waiting for you in heaven.”
Xander’s eyes were already welled up when he finished.
He then wrote a letter to Audrey, not saying what he had gone to do, just that he had received orders to
carry out a mission and that he wasn’t sure when he would be back this time, asking her to wait for him
to return.
Xander’s hand trembled a little when he wrote this.
He knew that he might not return from this trip, but he had to leave a reminder for Audrey. Otherwise,
she would also die with him.
Xander only then kissed Audrey deeply after he had taken care of everything.
The sleeping Audrey felt Xander’s breath, and her hands subconsciously wrapped around his neck in
response.
The passion was almost too much for Xander to restrain. He then managed to pull away from Audrey,

leaving.
As he reached the Dark Forest, there were already a dozen black shadows standing there waiting for
Xander’s orders.
Xander glanced at them and said coldly, “Leave three people behind to go to the overseas battlefield to
find Olivia and help her find Jacob. Protect Olivia and Jacob no matter what it takes!”
“Yes!”
At once, three people stepped forward and ran towards the overseas battlefield as instructed by
Xander.
They were as fast as lightning, leaving only streaks of shadows.
The others were not surprised by this.
Xander looked at the others and said coldly, “The rest of you follow me back to the Capital City to save
my little grandson. There is a high chance that you will not be able to return alive, so I will not stop you
if you want to stay. Someone will naturally take my place in three days’ time, and arrangements will be
made for you to do so. No one will know you are mutants as long as you don’t give away your identity.
You can get married and have children here or apply for retirement. But remember, anyone who dares

down!”
His words were full of murderous intentions.
The ten black shadows stepped forward in unison and said in one voice, “We will follow Mr. Don even
unto death!”
Tears filled Xander’s eyes.
No one knew what kind of pain they had endured in the base all those years to survive, and no one
knew how discreetly they had lived to hide the secrets they carried.
They would instead declare that they were already dead to not bring danger to their families.
They were human, but yet not precisely human. They had no identity, yet they had the noblest of
professions.
Not many knew their helplessness and poignancy.
If Xander hadn’t appeared and taken them out of the base, they would never have been able to be a
normal person properly.
Now, no matter what Xander wanted to do, they would only take him as their master! It didn’t matter for
whatever it took!
