Xander narrowed his eyes again.
Cody Shaffer was betting on Eaton’s importance to Xander.
It was said that people who had been away on missions for a long time were the most eager for their
families. And because they felt too much guilt towards them, they would do anything for them.
Such was the case with Xander at this moment.
“You better make sure my grandson is okay. Otherwise, I swear I’ll rip off your head and hang it at the
gate. You know, I’ll do it! At my age, it doesn’t matter to me what merit I have.”
Cody Shaffer calmed down as Xander said that.
As long as he said that, he would stop Mr. Morty from going in. And as long as Mr. Morty didn’t get in,
there was still hope for the Shaffer family.
Xander did feel ridiculous about Cody Shaffer’s approach.
Did he really think that everything in the Shaffer family could be held without Mr. Morty going in?
Did he think he could still get away with it after messing with his grandson?
Xander gave him a stern look, then came to Mr. Morty’s side and said, “Mr. Morty, the Shaffer family is
a meritorious family after all. It doesn’t seem good to go in and search it in public, and it’s not in line
with the rules too. How about you go back first and come again another day?”
Mr. Morty frowned slightly.
Although he knew that Cody Shaffer would definitely say something to Xander to obstruct him, he
never thought that Xander would really stop him.
“Mr. Don, what are you doing?”
“Mr. Morty, I’m just kindly reminding you.”
Xander’s eyes were crystal clear, suddenly causing Mr. Morty to ponder. Lucas was on the side and
didn’t know what they were mumbling again, only to see Cody Shaffer seemingly being embarrassed.
“Since Mr. Don has said so, it really doesn’t seem to be too good for me to force my way in again. I’m
sorry, Mr. Shaffer!”
Mr. Morty waved his hand, and his men quickly stopped.
Only then did Cody Shaffer rest assured.
“Mr. Morty, don’t let your anger get the better of you.”
Although Cody Shaffer was smiling as he said it, his words were harsh and arrogant.
Everyone knew that the Shaffers were so comfortable just because of the merits of his ancestors.
Lucas frowned, intuitively disliking this person.
However, Mr. Morty said with an unchanging expression, “I’ll take note of your good advice. Let’s go!”
With a command from Mr. Morty, his men quickly retreated.
Although Lucas was anxious, they had taken Cara away this time, so it wasn’t like they had gotten
nothing.
He gave Xander a worried glance and saw him wink at him. Xander’s look of relief made him sigh with
ease, but there was still some doubt in his mind.
‘What exactly was Grandpa’s relationship with Mr. Shaffer?’
Just after Mr. Morty’s people had left, Xander looked at Cody Shaffer and said, “Mr. Shaffer, where is
my grandson?”
“Mr. Don, shall we talk?”
“Please!”
Xander followed Cody Shaffer into the car, but his men stayed behind.
Cody Shaffer furrowed his brow.
“What do you mean by this?”
“Just in case. Although I have the guts to meet you alone, I have to ensure that I can bring back my
grandson safely. If you can’t return the child to me as promised, then I don’t have to worry about
broadcasting what’s underneath your training ground live for the whole country to see.”
Xander went up against Cody Shaffer.
“You!”
Cody Shaffer was going bananas.
He had forgotten the unbending spirit of the Don family.
“Fine! I’ll take you there! But Xander, remember that you’ll be retired in three days. And there’ll be no
luck for the Don family if you offend me then.”
“Can I take it that you’re threatening me?”
Xander was calm, unconcerned about what would happen after he retired, making Cody Shaffer blow
his top.
“Humph!”
He flung his sleeve and looked away.
He was afraid that he couldn’t control himself and wanted to kill Xander!
He couldn’t have put himself through this if he hadn’t been unable to beat him.
The group of people soon arrived at the Shaffer family.
Looking at the small villa in front of him, Xander frowned, but he didn’t say anything.
The Shaffer family never restrained themselves at all. They were really going over the top.
As Cody Shaffer entered the villa, he waved away his men, looking coldly at Xander and said, “Have
you forgotten who was covering up for you and your monstrous men all these years? If it weren’t for the
Shaffer family, you guys would have been dealt with long ago! Would you even still able to threaten me
like now?”
Xander narrowed his eyes slightly as a flash of red light flashed by, scaring Cody Shaffer into taking a
step back.
“What do you want? I’m warning you, if you make a move against me, I’ll be rude to your grandson.”
Xander couldn’t help but sit down in a chair and said faintly, seeing how scared he was, “You want to
talk about me and my men’s mutation after so many years, don’t you? Sure, after all these years, let’s
have a nice chat.”
“Talk about what? If it wasn’t for me, you and your monstrous men would have been dead long ago!”
“Yeah, if it wasn’t for you, we would have been dead long ago. We would still have been martyrs,
admired heroes, and our remains would have buried in the Martyrs’ Cemetery, to be honoured by future
generations. But, you carried us back and used the mutated genes to do research on us. Do you
remember that you were still a soldier? Where did Elvis get that much power, buying an island as a
research base? He had already been kicked out of the Green family at the time. So if you and the
Shaffer family hadn’t given him support, how would he have had that funding to do that?”
Xander slapped his palm on the table with a thud, and his face was raging with anger.
Fuming, Xander’s eyes changed colour, scaring Cody Shaffer into speaking up immediately.
“Don’t you mess around! Even if I have funded Elvis in the first place, you still got the benefit, didn’t
you? Look at you now. You can fight better than ordinary people and you also live longer than them. If I
hadn’t done that to you back then, would you have found Audrey and been with her now? Could you
have seen your daughter have a family? Xander, every coin has two sides. If you had died back then,
your loved ones would not have been able to see you. And in that respect you should be grateful to
me.”
“Grateful to you? Grateful to you for making my life worse than death? Grateful that you studied me like
a lab rat all those years, seeing my whole squad of men in the end with only a dozen men left? They
are also born and raised by their parents. Have you ever thought about their parents’ feelings? You
think you can just ignore everything because Elvis took the blame for you, and you have a meritorious
man working for Aron Hill? So you didn’t just take us away at random, did you? Was it because of our
blood or genetics problems? So that’s why you took my grandson?”
