When Vanessa came back from the evening class, her aunt and two children fell asleep, only the light
in Winnie’s room was still on.
Vanessa opened Winnie's door and then gently closed it.
"Sister, are you still working?”
Vanessa asked softly.
"Yes, have you had your supper?"
Winnie turned around and asked Vanessa.
"Yes, I had with my classmates."
"Sister, does Leo like you? If you can’t be with Brian, why don’t you…"
"I can’t be with Leo either. Aunt talked with me about that today, so you don't have to say that. I won’t
be with Brian and I won’t be with Leo. He hurt me once. How would I be with him?"
"Don’t mention it any more. I'll never find a boyfriend again in my life."
Winnie did not want to talk about men. She had been hurt by men and did not get hurt again.
"Sister, but you'll be alone. The children will grow up and leave you. What will you do then?"
Although Winnie had said that, Vanessa persuaded her, it was for the sake of her sister.
"I will live alone. I am not the only lonely person in the world. It's getting late and you have to go to
school tomorrow. Go to sleep."
Winnie said with impatience. She did not want to worry about it. She believed that no matter who left,
she could face the reality.
After Vanessa left, Winnie sighed a long sigh.
Though her troubles were much less after Penny was put in prison, her heart was never at peace. Now
she had finally decided to forget Brian, but everyone came to remind her...
It made her heart more uneasy.
Now she saw the truth and just wanted to put all her energy on the child, only hoped that Brian could
be happy and that Leo could find his true love as soon as possible.
She had been ready for being a lone for a lifetime. She had been so before she met Brian.
Felix took Brian's hukou back. In order to avoid Wendy to bother him, he really went to the nursing
home to stay for a period of time.
But he did not take Rufus with him.
This time he wanted Wendy to think if she would be good or arrogant in front of him.
Stella came to suburb to see her father and called Brian to bring Wendy over. Brian had to do so.
But without Winnie, he had no feeling of home.
The family first greeted, however Stella and Rufus disliked Wendy.
Stella found an opportunity to chat with Brian alone.
"I heard from grandpa that you can't register for marriage for the time being. Did Wendy upset
grandpa?"
"No, but Grandpa's too sensitive. Wendy is such a straight shooter that she say whatever she wants."
Brian explained, but his grandfather did make him relaxed.
"It's good to put it off for a while. After all these years of parting, you need to get to know each other
again. Brian, I don't think you are in high spirits. Did you quarrel with Wendy?"
Stella knew her brother well, but she did not ask directly.
"No, it is just I am busy and I am tired."
Brian find an excuse, in fact, he missed Winnie. Everywhere had the breath of Winnie, which made him
miss her more.
"You are really tired of supporting Bennet Group by yourself. If you are too busy, I will take care of the
wedding for you."
Stella loved her brother. If he was tired physically, he could take a rest, but if it is mentally tired, it was
difficult to heal.
"It depends on grandpa, temporarily wedding is not needed. When grandpa is not angry, you can
discuss with him."
What Brian said seemed not to be his own marriage. Now he was really in no mood to prepare for the
wedding.
"Brian, you..."
Stella wanted to ask if Brian really want to marry Wendy, but before that, the two siblings' conversation
was interrupted by Wendy.
"Brian, why bother your sister with our wedding? We had better prepare it ourselves."
Wendy seemed to be dissatisfied with Brian's contempt for the wedding. In her opinion, Brian should
push off all the things and put all the attention on the wedding, after all, there was only one wedding in
a lifetime.
"We will wait for grandpa to return my hukou."
Brian said aptly. There was no joy of reunion after a long separation, nor passion in those years.
Stella felt lucky that she did not say the words out, looking at Brian’s frowning eyebrows and Wendy
unpleasant face.
She could see that Brian was not very interested in getting married. Otherwise, even if Grandpa took
the hukou, he could not be prevented from getting married.
Brian left with Wendy, leaving only Rufus and Stella at home.
Stella came to the living room with a cup of tea.
"Dad, do you like Wendy?"
Stella asked directly. Rufus answer directly.
"I don't like her. I don't know why, but I don't feel like a family."
"Me either. It always feels like there's something missing. I always fell like she doesn't belong to the
family."
Stella put the tea in the hand in front of Rufus.
"She is pretty, but looks rigid. She is not as flattering as Winnie. She has a rich family and a nice figure,
but the clothes do not make her high-end. She does not look as noble and elegant as Winnie, and is
not match to Brian."
Stella continued.
Before Wendy came back, she was not fond of Winnie, but compared with Wendy, she knew that
Winnie had many advantages.
Take things just happened for example, Wendy interrupt her conversation with Brian impolitely, if it
were Winnie, she would leave silently.
"Why do you always compare Wendy with Winnie?"
Rufus asked and did not understand why Stella made comparison.
"Dad, can't you see that Brian has feelings for Winnie? They are two women he likes, so I should
compare them."
"Brian said nothing to me, and what I read is all conjecture, and I can't say anything until he tells me. I
don't like Wendy, I just don't think she's as good as Winnie."
Rufus knew that the heart of Brian had been divided into two parts. And it was difficult for him to
abandon one of them.
"Yes, I don’t like her. I don't know why Brian loves her and has waited for her for so many years."
Stella did not understand the heart of Brian, but she saw that Brian was not as persistent as before to
Wendy.
"Brian doesn't love Wendy very much. I think he wants to see how long his grandfather could control
him and whether he could marry the girl his grandfather opposed."
Rufus made analysis from Brian’s indifference to Wendy.
In this way, Brian should love Winnie more. Since he loves Winnie, can he still get married?
"If it is so, he will suffer. Marriage is a big thing in life, and two people will live together for a lifetime.
How does he maintain marriage without love?"
Stella began to worry. She did not want Brian's marriage like her father’s. Her parents had always
fought with each other.
"Stella, talk to him alone. Make clear to him what's at stake. Tell him think and analyze before he
makes a decision."
Rufus could only give this task to Stella, because Brian would not listen to him.
Since Winnie's departure, their relationship had stagnated and even gone into reverse. What he said
carried even less weight.
"Don't worry, Dad. I want to talk with him too. I will go to the company to see him tomorrow."
Stella thought Rufus’s worry was right. She could not tell Brian Wendy was not suitable for him till they
got married.
But......
"Dad, if Brian chooses Winnie, Grandpa..."
Stella thought of another difficult problem, it seemed it was not easy to be happy.
“I don't know what I can do now, unless Brian gives up everything to Thomas.”
Rufus showed a look of difficulty.
"I'm afraid it won't work either. Grandpa puts all his hopes on Brian. Even if Brian gives up, Grandpa
won't agree."
What Stella said was realistic, which was difficult to overcome.
Grandpa was so old and could not be disobeyed. She did not know what to do.
Before Wendy came back, she thought that as long as Wendy came back to marry Brian, Brian's life
would be perfect. And more than once, she reminded Winnie not to disturb Brian.
But after Wendy came back, Stella's thought came to a surprising reversal. Seeing the arrogant Wendy
and sad Brian, she knew that Winnie was more suitable for Brian. Only Winnie let Brian involuntarily
show a smile.
Stella came to the office of Brian the next day.
"Brian, does it bother you that Jack works here?"
Stella did not go straight to the point, but she had to remind Brian of Jack.
"It is ok, he is well-behaved, but he gets too close to the female staff."
Brian said in a low voice.
He had long predicted that relations between men and women would be chaotic as long as there was
Jack.
"It's just his nature and it's not easy to change. These are small things, as long as he doesn't try to trick
you at work. And you should take more care lest he takes advantage."
Stella had to always remind Brian, for fear that Brian would be stroke by Uncle Thomas.
