Winnie was practicing shooting and then Office Lee came over.
"Do you need practice, too?"
Winnie greeted her but Office Lee gave a serious face.
"I came to see you."
"Is there a mission?"
Winnie put down the gun and walked out of the training ground with Office Lee.
"It's not a mission. It's about Penny."
Office Lee said seriously, which stunned Winnie. From his attitude, she knew it was a bad news.
"Are you sure it was a terminal cancer?"
"Yes, the result is out and the doctor gives the final diagnosis – it is terminal cancer. It is worse than
expected. Cancer cells have been detected in her liver and bone marrow as well as stomach and bowel
cancer.
Office Lee said pitifully, afraid that Winnie could not bear it.
Winnie really could not bear it. She did not expect to be so serious. The result was tantamount to a
death sentence for Penny.
"How long can she still live?"
Winnie asked with desperation.
"The doctor said it depends on her mentality. If she is positive, she can live for six months, but if not,
she can live only for two months."
Such an answer undoubtedly made Winnie more desperate.
She could not help but grew red in eyes for someone who hurt her and her kids.
"What if she gets treatment? Is it going to make her live for longer?"
Winnie did not want to give up, wanted to try to make Penny live longer. But the answer was a blow to
her.
"I had asked the doctor and he said there is no therapeutic value. The treatment will prolong her life,
but she may die on the operation table.
Office Lee had asked the doctor about it, if there was hope, he would not be so upset.
Winnie could not help but shedding tears, feeling heartache.
"Don't cry. The doctor said she's doing well and the cancer is not obvious. If she has a good attitude,
living for half a year should be no problem."
Office Lee hurried to comfort Winnie, tried to say some optimistic words.
"She won't have a good attitude. If she finds out she has cancer, she'll go crazy. I don’t think she can
live for two months.
Winnie understood Penny well. She could bring pain to others, but she could not bear the blow to her.
"Well, when she got out, a cellmate named Amy helped her. It was said that Amy knew a doctor who
could exaggerate her condition indefinitely, so that she could stay out longer."
"We found the doctor and we have him under control. So if you tell Penny that she has cancer, she will
think that the doctor exaggerated her condition and won't really think that she has a cancer. in this way,
she will be in a much better mental state."
Office Lee told Winnie that, for fear that she would be worried.
"So she did herself a favor by going out."
Winnie stopped crying, but her voice was still trembling. She knew it a few days ago, but she still could
not accept when the result came out.
"You could say so, so it's kind of a good thing. Take it easy. This is her destiny and there's no one can
change that. It doesn't matter how sad you are."
Office Lee continued to comfort her. He thought Penny deserved it, but he could not say so, or Winnie
would not sad.
"Alas......"
Winnie sighed. She understood it, but still felt difficult to accept it.
"There is still a problem to be solved. She can't go back to prison since she has cancer, and the prison
police can't watch her all the time. Generally she should be transferred to her family. But as far as we
know, her family is not in contact with her and in a very bad condition. They cannot afford to pay for her
treatment."
Office Lee did not know what to do, after all, she was involved in another case, so he did not know ask
who to take care of Penny.
"She can pay her own medical bills, she has money. Having no one to take care of her is a problem.
But I can."
Winnie volunteered. She was busy, but she did not want Penny to be sad.
"No, you can't be safe like that. She is so hostile to you that she will threaten you if you are not careful.
I'll figure it out and see if I can persuade her family."
Officer Lee did not expect Winnie was so kind, she even did not care about her own safety. He wouldn't
have even talked about it if he had known it.
"Ok them, but if they refuse, I can take care of her. She won't do anything to me since she is ill.”
Winnie did not have much concern as Office Lee, but she had to take his advice.
After Winnie separated with Office Lee, she was not in the mood to practice shooting. She packed up
her things and went back to her car, and then she made a call to Oscar.
Oscar was sad to hear the news. He wanted to do something for Penny, so he offered to take care of
Penny.
"You told the police to let me look after her. We are closer than the others."
"Oscar, I understand how you feel. I'm as upset as you are, and I can't accept the fact. But she is, after
all, a prisoner, and you will be legally responsible if you look after her.”
Winnie was now worried about Oscar.
"Well, she has no one to look after her now, and she is close to death. I can't just sit idle."
There was no guarantee that Penny would continue to run afoul of the law in the meantime, given her
ambition and her ferocity. But Oscar believed that Penny would not do anything to hurt him.
"Don't worry. Let the police deal with it first. If there is no one to look after her, you and I can look after
her."
Winnie could not come up with a good idea, and she could not let Oscar take the responsibility. She felt
she should not let Penny pass away sadly.
"You don't need to take care of her. She has always been hostile to you. What if she hurts you? You tell
the police I'll take care of her if her family decides to leave her alone.”
Oscar said seriously, he would not allow Winnie’s intervention, to let her got into danger again.
"We're working on it. I'll tell the police what you think."
Winnie did not continue to dispute, no matter who would take care of Penny, she could not sit idle.
Even if Penny hated her, she would go to see her.
Winnie went to back to the company after calling Officer Lee. In the underground parking lot, she
accidentally saw Klara and secretary Bonnie talking in a corner secretly.
"Klara, I really didn't say that. Director Chambers found it out herself. I am not a fool, how can I betray
myself?"
Bonnie said embarrassedly.
She knew that Klara had returned to the company to work, and she had been avoiding Klara, but she
was caught by Klara today.
"Okay, I'll believe you for now, but listen to me. Don’t tell M. Bennet, or both us will lose our jobs."
Klara warned sharply, with her face sullen like a shrew.
"I won't tell him. Besides, Director Chambers gave me a chance, and she didn't him, why should I?
Klara, I gotta go back to work."
Bonnie wanted to leave, she was really afraid of Klara’s evil face.
"Wait, I want to ask you something else. Does Winnie have any plans to compete abroad recently?"
This was the real reason why Klara came to Bonnie.
Wendy had her money and she never got it back. Before Wendy gave her wages and interest per
month, now it had been more than two months, she got no news. And Winnie did not go abroad for
competition, which confused Klara.
"No, Director Chambers has no competition."
Bonnie was puzzled why Klara asked so.
"No?"
Klara was not calm.
"No, I've been working here for a long time and Director Chambers has never participated in any
competitions. And there are no plans for one in the next six months."
Bonnie explained.
Klara was stunned and flustered. Was Wendy lying to her to take her money?
"Klara, I gotta go."
Bonnie hurriedly escaped when Klara was stunned.
Klara was panic, because she had given Wendy ten million.
What should she do? She gotta get her money back.
Winnie had heard the conversation between Klara and Bonnie, but she did not ask, pretending she
heard nothing.
After Bonnie got on the elevator, Winnie stood at another elevator entrance and waited for the elevator.
When the elevator door opened, Klara also came over.
"It's bad luck to meet someone I don't want to meet."
Klara sneered as she walked into the elevator.
"You can take another elevator. I don't want to see you either."
Winnie did not endure it and refuted back. She would not take any bad words Klara said to her.
"Why don't you get out?"
Not to be outdone, Klara asked Winnie.
"I got in first. Why should I get out? You said you didn't want to meet me first. Since you can’t be with
the same elevator with me, why don’t you get out?"
Winnie said sharply.
"Boring."
Klara could only temporarily compromise because she did not want to wait another elevator.
