Laura wanted to end the subject after another remark, but Wendy interrupted her.
"Laura, I understand you, I understand you. It was my fault. I'm sorry. I dare not ask you to help me
again."
"But Laura, there is something I want to ask you. When you talked to Winnie alone, what did you say to
her?"
Wendy came to Laura today because she wanted to ask this question. She did not want to pursue who
betrayed her, after all, Laura helped her.
According to Wendy, Laura guessed that it must be Klara told Wendy that she had talked with Winnie
alone and Klara put the responsibility on her.
"Wendy, I told her the truth about everything we did together. I did not shirk my responsibility, nor did I
exaggerate fearlessly, nor did I denigrate you or Klara."
Laura said truthfully, but Klara did not think so, otherwise Wendy would not come over to her now.
"So Winnie knows about everything, and Brian must know about it, too."
Wendy felt hopeless. Brian had known everything she had done, how could she explain and fix it?
"Wendy, I have nothing to say. I have to hurry home."
Laura opened the door, but she then stopped.
"Wendy, be careful when you make friends and think it over."
She did not tell Wendy directly but just reminded her.
Laura got off and left, but Wendy did not understand the meaning of Laura. What did she imply? To
whom and to what she was referring.
Brian needed to work overtime, and Winnie drove back to her home alone. When she got back to her
empty home, she inevitably missed the children.
But she could not go to the suburbs, and did not know if she could make a call, so she first sent a
message to Stella.
Winnie: Stella, I want to talk to children. Is it ok?
Stella was chatting with her grandfather in the living room at this time. Seeing the message, she knew
Winnie missed the children.
Stella: Grandpa's with me. I'll let the two kids go to their room and you send them message.
Stella: Grandpa is going back to the suburbs tomorrow. Then you can come and see the children.
Stella sent two messages, and then said to the two children who were playing.
“It's time for you to go upstairs and do your homework.”
Stella's sudden command stunned the two children, but they went upstairs after looking at each other.
Upstairs, the two children entered a room, and carefully locked the door behind them.
They found the phone and sent a message to Winnie.
"Mommy!”
"Mommy!”
The two children excitedly called out their mother at the moment they saw her face.
"Mommy, we miss you. Why haven't you come back?"
Megan felt sat instantly. She grew up with Mommy and did not get used to leave Mommy. And the
atmosphere on the day Mommy left was very worrisome.
"I have been so busy these days and got a lot of work to do. I will come and see you when I finish my
work."
Winnie felt better looking at the two children's face.
It was hard for her to imagine what it would be like to be separated from her children. Would she die
because she missed them too much?
Winnie continued to ask.
"Megan, does it still hurt on your foot?"
"It doesn't hurt, Mommy. I can wear my slippers now."
Megan readily answered, but she still had grievance on face.
"Where's Daddy? Daddy hasn't come back these days either."
Luke asked. Dad and mom were absent, and they did not have sense of security.
"Daddy is busier than me, but Daddy will be with you tonight."
Winnie felt the children's inner fear, so for she made a decision to go home for Brian.
"Mommy, are you lonely at home alone? Have you eaten well and slept well. Brother and I can go back
and stay with you?"
Megan’s small face twisted because she felt wronged and missed Mommy. She wanted to cry at the
moment, but she feared that Mommy would worry.
"I am fine. Don't worry. You and brother can't come back, because no one here to take care of you.
Aunt and grandpa are in the suburbs, so long as you are good and don't let me worry about you."
"I'll fetch you home when I have done with work."
Winnie comforted the children and made a promise, but she did not know when the promise could be
fulfilled.
"You don't have to worry about us, Mommy. We're good here and have done our homework. And I will
take good care of sister. As long as you work quickly, we can go home early. We miss grand aunt and
aunt."
Luke was afraid that Mommy would worry about them, so he promised her.
But even though Grandpa's was nice, he never felt at home. He wanted to go back to the days when
he lived with his aunt and grand aunt. That was home, where he could feel steadfast.
"Good, and I will hurry to finish work."
Winnie felt hurt in heart looking at the sensible Luke and the wronged Megan. What did the children do
wrong, why they had been turbulent and had not a day of stability. Why did they have to endure all
kinds of worries and separation?
Winnie could not control her heart and hung up the phone soon, she was afraid that the children would
see her cry, and they would cry too.
After the children hung up, they received a message from their aunt.
Stella: Be sad when you come down for dinner.
Two children understood what Stella wanted them to do. They might not be able to help in other
aspects, but they were good at this regard.
At the dinner table, the two children were in low spirits. They had not spoken since they sat in the
dining chairs.
Stella gave two children thumb up in her heart. They must be the best actors, but it should be mixed
with their true feelings.
After a while, Stella began to cooperate with the two children.
"What's the matter with you two? Is there anything unhappy?"
"Auntie, we are eating here, but we don't know if Daddy and Mommy have food or not."
Luke answered first, and then it was Megan answered.
"Aunt, I miss Daddy and Mommy."
Megan said with worry.
"Oh, but they're all busy working. They're trying to make money so they can support you."
Stella thought she could go to the film festival to get award back.
"We don't need money, we just want to be together with Daddy and Mommy. If we can be together
every day, we can live in a small house and take bus. We won't mind if we go to a mediocre school,
and we're sure we'll get good grades."
Luke said with morale. He wanted his Grand Grandpa to know money could not fix anything. They
could live well even if they were not rich.
"Yes, if we are with Mommy and Daddy, our classmates won't say we have a single parent, and we can
show off in front of them that we have Mommy and Daddy."
Megan added.
"Everyone in the class has Mommy and Daddy. Their home is not as good as ours, but they are happy.
I want that simple happiness right now."
Although knowing the children were acting, Stella felt sad. They must had been through there, or how
could it be so true?
Hearing that, Rufus frowned. Felix did not show a different look, but his heart had ups and downs.
Stella continued to cooperate.
"You are still small, and you don't understand the grown-up’s world. Daddy and Mommy want to give
you the best living environment, so they work hard. And you must learn to live without parents, and one
day you will grow up and have your own life."
"Aunt, we understand what you said, but we are now children. We just want to live a child's life, want a
complete home and not to be bullied by classmates. We want to have a happy life as other children.
When we grow up, we can leave parents naturally and it doesn’t need to learn."
Luke said like an adult, and this speech made everyone speechless.
There was a moment of silence. Then Megan cried out loud.
Stella asked with worry.
"Why are you crying, Megan?"
"Nothing, aunt, I want to ask you a question."
Megan wiped her tears and continued to say.
"Great Grandpa, I ask you first. You grew up with your parents, didn't you? You were born in a
complete home, right?"
Felix gave a positive answer.
“Yes, I was.”
Megan got the answer and then looked to Rufus.
"What about you, Grandpa?"
"I had a complete home, too."
Rufus said with guilty.
"What about you, Aunt? You must be as happy as Great Grandpa and Grandpa."
"Yes, but my mother died when I was a teenager."
Stella truthfully answered and she had guessed Megan’s intention.
"That was after you were teenagers. My brother and I had no family since we were born. We didn't
even know who our father and mother were. Although we know our parents now, we still don't have a
complete home."
"I'm afraid my brother and I are the worst off in terms of our families. I just want to know, you all have a
complete family and enjoyed the love of your parents, why can’t my brother and I have this right?"
Hearing Megan's words, all people were silent again and did not know how to answer Megan's
question.
"You had been happy and will never know how my brother and I feel, so you don't care about our
feelings. I wonder now if you really love me and my brother.”
With that, Megan directly jumped down the chair and left the table, followed by Luke.
"If you really don't love us, just leave us alone. We can grow up even if we go wandering."
Luke said angrily, but he thought that it would be better to go wandering than to be bound by his Great
Grandpa.
Luke left and went to appease Megan. The adults at the table were in no mood to eat.
