As the door closed, the elevator began to ascend.
Looking at the floor the elevator was about to stop, Klara was angry.
"I heard that Mr. Bennet is getting married with Gloria. I don't know how long you can work on the 30th
floor."
Klara satirized Winnie.
"You're not the one is about to marry Mr. Bennet. Does it matter to you?"
Winnie said sharply. She had such attitude earlier, Klara dare not do harm to her.
"You..."
Winnie was not the same as before, she refuted every word Klara said. Was she really determined to
fight?
"Winnie, I just want to do my job now, you'd better not to provoke me."
Klara had nothing to say and could only take a step back.
"Have I provoked you? Since you've been back, which confrontation did I start? I told you to do your job
and leave me alone, but you didn't seem to hear me."
"Klara, I am telling you, this is your last chance. If you are still plotting against me with Wendy, I will find
you out even if Brian protects you."
"Listen, I won’t be bullied casually."
Winnie sternly warned Klara, this time she had the upper hand. Klara dare not say a word but hurried to
get out of the elevator.
Winnie raised the corner of her mouth, but she had no joy of victory. She didn't like this kind of
communication, didn't like antagonism with anyone. But to protect herself from harm, she had to fill
herself with thorns.
As Winnie returned to her office, Brian's secretary came to her.
Winnie thought it was business, after all, Brian said a private matter could not disturb him. So Winnie
went directly to Brian's office without hesitation.
"You want to see me, Mr. Bennet?”
Winnie stood upright and spoke respectfully to Brian. That was the attitude of a subordinate to a
superior.
"It's not business, it's about the kids. I'm free tonight. You make the arrangements."
Brian's voice was cold. He did not even looked up at Winnie while reading the documents and
speaking.
Winnie froze to hear that.
"I'm going to pick up the kids tonight, and you can come to my house if you like. If it's not convenient..."
"Ok, I can be there around seven o’clock."
"Get out. I want to work."
Brian said and told her to go away, or he would be distressed.
"Okay, I got it."
"Mr. Bennet, there's one thing I want to give you back."
Winnie took off the necklace around her neck, and then went to the desk of Brian, put the necklace on
the table.
"I forgot it last time, here you are."
Winnie took the last look at the necklace and then turned away.
She loathed giving this necklace back, but Brian spent a lot of money to buy it. As long as it was Brian's
money, she had to return it.
Brian clutched the necklace in his hand and felt her body temperature on it. He had heartache. When
he gave it to her, he was happy, but now he felt bitter.
Their relationship was cut thoroughly. Was she really so ruthless to give up all?
After hanging up the phone, Oscar went directly to the Penny's brother and sister. He took a lot of effort
to persuade them to see Penny.
When they arrived at the hospital, the police let them in after confirming they were Penny’s brother and
sister. Even the police who had been guarding the ward went out.
Oscar went out because there were no outsiders in the ward and his presence seemed out of place.
"Thank you for coming to see me."
Penny was angry to see them, but she could not show it off. She knew they did not want to come.
They wouldn't have come if Oscar hadn't begged and pleaded.
"You're welcome. We didn't mean to come."
Her sister spoke sharply and angrily.
It angered Penny, they might have quarreled in the past. But now Penny had endured it.
"How are you doing now, if..."
"It's all thanks to you. Without you, the Burns family would not have been in such trouble and would not
have been defeated so miserably. I was divorced, and his girlfriend canceled the engagement since our
family went bankrupt. What do you think three of us in a small house doing?"
"I knew you were a troublemaker when you came to my home. Well, are you happy to get the Burns
family where it is now?"
Her sister hated her. She heard that Penny had a cancer, she did not pity Penny but hoped she died
immediately.
"Don't behave like that. I have something to discuss with you. We can't talk about it if you have that
attitude. You always say that I brought the Burns family to the present situation, are you sure that the
Burns family would not have ended like this without me? And What have you done for the Burns
family?"
Penny could not help but refute, she had anger and resentment too. But she could not show it, because
she did not want to make their relationship worse. So she was as rude as before.
"What did you do when the Burns family was thriving and when the Burns family was failing? It seems
like you couldn't be of any help at all.”
"When the Burns family was in crisis, why didn't you stand up and marry Brian? If I hadn't sacrificed my
happiness, the Burns family would have been like this today, could it still persist for so many years?"
Penny said. She felt she had gave the Burns family a second life, and neither of her brother nor sisters
had the right to criticize her.
"You're in chicanery..."
"Stop talking and listen to her."
Her sister was stopped by her brother.
There was no point in arguing about who was right and who was wrong. He wanted to hear what Penny
would say.
"Don’t you have something to say?"
Her brother was a man after all and more composed than her sister.
"When I broke up with Brian, he gave me a villa. The villa is now unoccupied, you take your mother to
move in."
Penny knew that her brother and sister hated her, and she hated them, too. But they had to help each
other on their father’s issue. In order to find her father, she temporarily needed to bond with her brother
and sister.
"Are you serious?”
Her sister said in surprise and did not believe that Penny could be so kind.
"Yes, it's a big house. I could live in it even if I go back."
"I have money, and you can let me know when you need it. But the Burns family will never rise again.
You have to work on your own."
Penny had to tell the truth.
She came out to fulfill her wish, and when she did, she would either die or spend the rest of her life in
prison. With her father's murder on her shoulders, it was impossible to restructure the company.
Without her and her father, the company would never be able to recover, so her brother and sister had
to see through the fact and find their own way of life.
"Why do you become so kind? Is it because you are dying?"
Her sister spoke sarcastically to Penny. She knew that Penny had a house, but she did not know that
Penny had money. Now that she had money and a house, they didn't have to live so hard.
"You know my illness?"
Penny was surprised, she thought no one knew.
"The doctor told us you had cancer before we came. But you don't look like having a cancer to me."
Her sister did not believe that Penny had a cancer from Penny’s condition, it was just a cold, she
presumed. She wondered if Penny was playing tricks.
"The doctor had told you, do you think it is false. Do you think is there anyone who likes cancer?"
Penny was nervous, for fear that her sister’s words made the police suspicious.
"I have cancer, or I wouldn't let you live in my house."
Penny felt relieved when she had cancer, because of it, she did not need to return to prison, proving
that Amy had succeeded.
"The police have visited us. If you have cancer, the prison can no longer take care of you. You must be
supervised and treated by your family."
Her brother spoke. He wanted to make things clear.
Her brother continued.
"My mother can't accept you. She hates you so much that she can't take you home. And we don't have
the money to continue your treatment. So we won't go to your villa, you'd better live by yourself."
"As for the medical bills, you just said you have money, so you can pay for it. But you have advanced
stomach cancer, you can opt out of treatment."
Her brother's words were cruel, but it was true.
Now his mother hated Penny, she would rather live in a small house than go to Penny’s house.
And they can’t help with Penny's disease even if they wanted to help. It was terminal cancer and it had
no value of treatment.
"Why not live in the villa?"
Before Penny spoke, her sister raised objections. She had different opinion as her brother. She needed
the villa and money. Penny should do it, because Penny made the Burns family turn into such an end.
"Are you trying to piss mother off? Do you think mother could live with her?"
Her brother asked her sister, which made her sister speechless. But she did not worry, Penny sooner or
later would die, and the villa would belong to them.
"Penny, I have said everything I should have said. Don't look for us again."
Her brother showed his attitude and then turned around, but Penny still has an important question.
"Wait, where's Dad now? How's he?"
Penny asked quietly, but she had to ask. It was the only day she had a chance to talk about her father
because the police were not there.
"We don't know. We've been trying to find him, but we haven't heard from him."
Speaking of his father, her brother eased down his attitude, because Penny still cared about his father.
