A hedgehog
“Or you could beg for it.”
Gloria felt lost for words.
She looked at him and snapped, “Jordy Collins, what’s wrong with you?”
“If it weren’t for me, you’d still be in the water. My phone was soaked because of you. Isn’t it the
treatment that you deserve?”
Gloria sniffed, “Don’t you call me an ungrateful person in this case. I knew you saved me for your own
sake, for fear of grandma. If you weren’t there to get me up today, someone else would.”
But then again, she should be grateful to whoever saved her. After all, there was no denying the
fact that it was a life-and-death moment then.
But now…
Facing Jordy, she found it so difficult to put a grateful word out of her mouth.
Consider me a vindictive person, thought Gloria.
Sure enough, Jordy’s face seemed to grow darker, but Gloria was undaunted. She looked over at Jordy
and asked, “Do I really have to beg you to buy me a phone?”
There was no way Jordy would let her walk out of this door today. So, she did not see a reason why
she should provoke him at the moment.
It could be dangerous out there. Angela was a real psycho who would do whatever she could in order
to get what she wanted.
Jordy had been mad at Gloria.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
It took Gloria a moment to realize what he meant. She just smiled. “Would you believe me?”
Jordy did not answer.
Gloria was amused at his expression. Apparently, he also remembered what his reaction
was whenever she told him something.
Jordy closed his eyes. “I’ll have my assistant buy a new phone for you. Call grandma right now and tell
her that you are okay. She had been asking about you.”
Gloria didn’t say anything. She picked up the phone and dialed the number of Karen.
Karen put it through almost immediately. “Hello.”
“Grandma, it’s me, Gloria.”
Karen was taken aback and then she asked anxiously, “Gloria, how are you doing? I saw you were all
wet. What happened?”
The room was quiet. Even without the call being put on speaker could Jordy hear clearly what Karen
was saying?
Gloria took a seat on the sofa and regained her usual grace and composure. “I just slipped into the
water by accident. I’m fine, Grandma.”
“Nonsense! You must be more careful next time. Don’t park in that sort of dangerous place,
understand?”
“Yes! Don’t worry, grandma. It won’t happen again,” Gloria kept her voice softly while saying.
Jordy grew increasingly agitated.
This woman got two faces. In front of his grandma, she was tender and amicable but while facing him,
she turned into a hedgehog and always stayed on a high alert against him.
After some more talking, Gloria hung up.
Someone was knocking at the door.
“Mr. Collins.”
That was Harold’s voice.
Gloria was a bit surprised.
Jordy answered the door. Gloria saw Harold hand Jordy a white bag he was carrying, “It’s Miss White’s
on the top.”
Without saying a word, Jordy took it over and closed the door.
Gloria felt bewildered. It didn’t look like a packed dinner. Was it…?
Jordy took an emotionless glance at her and opened the bag to take out his belongings.
