“Don‘t take it too hard. You don‘t have to connect with her.”
Angela was stunned.
She had expected harsh words from him. In the end, he made such a remark.
“Jordy, I...”
“I still have unfinished business. When I’m free, I‘ll come to visit you. Go home and have a good rest.”
Angela was petrified.
Her lips parted as she tried to say something. For fear of annoying Jordy, she said in a considerate
way, “Okay, go ahead with your work. Take care and don‘t stress yourself out.”
“I know.”
There was a tinge of impatience in Jordy‘s magnetic voice.
Angela‘s face changed, but she said, “Gotta go.”
Jordy hummed.
Angela took a breath and hung up the phone.
In the next instant, she glared at Martha and spluttered, “See? You shouldn‘t have asked me to call
him! What are Dad and you planning?”
Just now, her mother had instructed her to do this and told her about the benefits. However, their real
purpose was not shared. Angela was annoyed even more for not getting enough attention from Jordy.
Martha chuckled and replied, “This is the effect I want. Sweetheart, you‘re worried about nothing. Even
if Gloria had a chance to work with the Brown Group, so what? Do you think she can take the White
Group back?”
Angela froze, looked at her mother, and asked, “What do you mean?”
“Didn‘t Mr. Collins tell you to have a good rest? Just leave the rest to me.”
Angela was puzzled.
She asked, “Mom, what are Dad and you up to?”
Martha was disappointed in her daughter. “Haven‘t you figured out our plan?”
“Huh?” Angela was baffled.
Martha shook her head and explained, “We‘re trying to achieve two things. First, you should marry
Jordy as soon as possible; second, we‘ll stop Gloria from getting the White Group back. Don‘t miss the
point.”
Angela didn‘t get it, and she retorted, “I didn‘t miss the point. I got suspended just because I tried to
stop her, okay?”
Martha sighed. “Forget it, all that you need to do now is figure out a
way to marry Jordy.”
Angela was confounded. “What has that got to do with the phone call?”
“Everything happens for a reason.” Martha‘s words were arcane.
Angela was upset, to begin with. Now she couldn‘t hold back any longer. “What on earth is going on?
Can‘t you call a spade a spade?”
“Haste makes waste. Given your rash character, if I tell you now, you‘ll mess things up. Pull yourself
together first. I‘ll tell you in a few days.
With that, Martha got up and left.
Angela was speechless.
She growled in exasperation and threw her phone on the bed.
Closing her eyes, she took deep breaths to calm down. It was getting late.
Gloria appeared in the bar.
Corey was a regular customer of this place.
She sat down in the corner and waited for her prey.
A glass of blue liquid sat in front of her, but she had no intention of taking a sip.
She was just playing with her phone.
Just then, her phone rang.
