Not Playing by the Rules
Newell looked at Jordy intensely and said calmly, “So what do you think now? Do you really want to get
married to Gloria again?”
“Yes.” Jordy only burst out one word without any hesitation this time.
Newell gazed at him in surprise, “Have you really thought about it?”
“Yes.”
Jordy uttered a single word again with composure.
Newell kept looking at him, “Do you really have feelings for Gloria or do you still feel the same way for
her, that you only think she is a proper candidate as your wife?”
Jordan frowned as he heard the question. He turned his eyes to Newell and said, “Now, from your
perspective, do you think Gloria will marry me because she likes me, judging from her state of mind? If
there is no love in her callous heart, then I think it would be better for her to marry me than anyone
else.”
“I’m not asking her. I’m asking you.” Newell looked at him carefully, waiting for his response.
But Jordy frowned again, “What’s the difference?”
Gloria doesn’t like me or any other men. She will never find love no matter who she marries. On such
circumstances, I’m the most suitable one for her to marry, isn’t it? After all, we used to be a couple.
“Of course, it’s different.” Newell frowned. Glaring at Jordy, he said a little bit irritated, “If she marries
you, you wouldn’t have any feelings for her and you will never care about her, which is the fundamental
part of a marriage. You won’t take care of her if she falls ill, and you won’t care about her emotions if
she isn’t happy. But if she marries a person who really likes her?”
Jordy pressed his lips tightly and said nothing.
Newell continued, “For example, Bryson. If Gloria married Bryson, she would be a happy wife. Bryson
would put her first and care about her and wouldn’t let anything come to her. He would never let her
suffer any injustice. But what about you? If you are in his position, not only would you refuse to protect
her, but you might also oppress her. And now you are telling me there is no difference?”
Jordy was speechless.
“Let’s take a simple example. If Gloria accidentally cut her finger when she is preparing dinner, what
will you do?” Newell stared at him and waited for his answer.
Jordy frowned slightly and looked at him as if he was offended by this obvious question.
But because Newell was Jordy’s father, he answered the question without distortion, “Obviously, I’ll
take her to a doctor.”
Newell laughed and said nothing.
Jordy frowned a little more and asked coldly, “Why are you laughing?”
Newell pursed his lips and answered, “If it was Bryson, he would not let Gloria cook at all. But you
would never care about that.”
Jordy didn’t say anything.
You are not playing by the rules!
He looked at Newell, and impatience flashed across his eyes. “You are just asking me what I will do if it
appears. You didn’t ask me what I would do before she cut her finger. Besides, she is a living person,
and I can’t stop what she wants to do all the time.”
Newell just smiled, “This is the difference between the case when you love and person and the case
when you don’t. A man with real love for her would never want her to get hurt at all.”
Jordy pursed his lips, “You’ve never done this to my mother.”
“Your mother and I were married out of benefit. You are old enough to know that.”
Jordy pressed his lips tightly without saying anything as if he had acquiesced to this statement.
Then he started the engine and didn’t want to say anything else.
Newell didn’t plan to get out of the car. Jordy gave him a cold look and asked, “Where are you going?”
“Drive me home, please.”
