God Favored Her
Gloria snapped back and shook her head. “Not really.”
She thought of Angela but felt that there was nothing she could share with Jordy.
Their relationship was subtle. Even though he had found out that Angela was not his rescuer, she was
still special in his heart.
As Gloria was reluctant to tell, his face turned sullener. So, he was meddling in her business. She didn’t
even consider turning to him for help.
Heh…
Jordy got up and headed out without another word.
Although he closed the door with ease, she could tell that he was unhappy.
Leaning against the head of the bed, she didn’t bother to call out to him or say another word.
She had never pinned her hope on him. They belonged to different worlds, and her standpoint had
been made clear just now. Probably, he would not help her investigate anymore.
That night, some people slept well but others did not.
Gloria slept and woke up several times. She had been thinking about something. Should she stay or
not?
She got up the next day, washed up, and went to find Jordy. The man was already gone. It was Nydia
who kept her company.
Gloria said in a soft voice, “Nydia, how about we go back?”
Nydia had come to see her this time with the very purpose, and she knew it.
So, it was natural for her to have the idea.
Nydia was a little surprised. “But you’re injured. It’s not convenient for you to go back now.”
Gloria pursed her lips. “Given my condition, I can’t stay here and continue the survey with him. He can
do it on his own, and my recuperation here will drag him down.”
Something came to Nydia, and she said with concern, “That’s right. You got injured because of Jordy,
right? He has dragged you down. If he gets attacked again while you’re in such a condition… My
goodness, we should go! I’ll let George take us back.”
Gloria’s eyes flickered. For some unknown reasons, she no longer wanted to leave.
Nydia didn’t know the matter arose from Gloria. It was reasonable that she wanted to get her friend
away from Jordy.
If those people lurking in the shadows found out, Nydia might be implicated.
Her eyes glimmered with frustration. This decision was ill–considered.
“Gloria?” Nydia noticed her silence and called out, “I’m going to pack up. Have your breakfast. We’re
leaving in a moment.”
Gloria said in a hurry, “No.”
Nydia was puzzled. “What’s wrong?”
“I don’t think I can walk yet, and my wound may be inflamed along the way. Immediate treatment will be
needed.”
“How about… we bring a doctor along?”
“It’s okay. I’ll stay here for a couple of days. Then we’ll go.”
Nydia was a little hesitant. “But… what if you get implicated again?”
She was quite worried.
Gloria smiled and said with composure, “After the failure, they won’t make another move any time
soon. Frequent actions will get them exposed.”
Nydia frowned, feeling that something was not right. She could not tell exactly and had to nod. “Fair
enough, call us when you’re ready to leave. Then we’ll start off right away.”
“Okay.” Gloria was touched. Her friend was always there for her, and she felt that God favored her
anyway.
