Public Duty and Private Feelings
Gloria didn‘t move.
Kristina looked over at her phone, frowned at the caller ID, and then looked at Gloria. “Please excuse
me, I have to take this.”
Gloria nodded her head.
Kristina then answered the phone.
Gloria was unable to hear the other party.
Kristina turned pale. Gloria‘s brows twitched as she wondered if anything went wrong with
Kristina‘s son.It can‘t be Corey. What is going on?
“I see.”
Kristina hung up the phone.
Puzzled, Gloria looked over and asked, “Was it your son?”
“No.”
Gloria was relieved. In fact, she wasn‘t 100% sure about Corey‘s promise.
Kristina said in an awkward voice, “Miss White, I… may need a favor from you.”
She was a straightforward person, but it didn‘t mean she could remain that way when she asked
someone for a favor.
Gloria was surprised. “Tell me about it. I‘ll do my best to help you.”
“Help me win a lawsuit.”
Gloria asked, “What kind of lawsuit?”
Kristina took a light breath before whispering, “We‘ll talk about it after dinner.”
Gloria nodded, aware that Kristina didn‘t want to ruin the atmosphere. Without another word,
Kristina ate as usual.
She followed Gloria to put down the knife and fork, sighed, and asked in a soft voice, “Can I add you on
WhatsApp?”
Gloria nodded at Kristina who stretched out her hand. Through the QR code, we added each other
before Kristina sent her a file.
“The situation is pretty much like that. Give me a quotation.”
Gloria skimmed through the content and said in a calm voice, “If nothing is missing and everything is
true, we‘ll win.”
Kristina‘s eyes lit up. “Great! Tell me your commission.”
Gloria laughed, “It‘s high.”
The corners of Kristina‘s mouth twitched. “I know.”
Instead of specifying the amount, Gloria smiled and said, “Send me all the evidence and the time of the
trial.”
Kristina was surprised. “I should have agreed to our deal sooner.”
She was kidding
She would not let private feelings override public duty.
She would not use that to threaten Gloria.
Gloria didn‘t threaten her either. It was a favor and trade. Kristina felt good about Gloria.
Since Gloria didn‘t name her price, Kristina pressed with a serious look, “How much will you charge?”
Gloria curled her lips. “Just see it as a regard from a friend.”
Kristina‘s face changed. “I can‘t. I‘ll owe you too much. Even reckoning makes long friends.”
Gloria checked the time instead of going on with the topic. “It‘s late and time for me to go home. You
should also go back to see your son, I presume.”
Kristina wrinkled her brows.
Gloria took a copy of the signed contract and smiled. “See you around.”
She stood up and went outside.
