They Played Him for a Fool
Jordy stiffened and drew a deep breath. Apparently unaware of this, Gloria slid her slender fingers over
the trackpad to open an audio file.
"Angela? Why are you calling me at this hour? Jordy's not back yet?”
Jordy frowned slightly. It’s Martha’s voice.
“Mom…” Angela’s voice broke. Marthaasked worriedly, "What's going on?"
Angela said in a sobbing voice, "Jordy is back."
Martha smiled, "It's just a matter of time, my dear. It happened before marriage, but don't worry. Jordy
will be responsible for you. This is good for you, silly girl. Why are you crying? What's he doing now?
Are you talking to me in the bathroom?"
At this point, Gloria could see Jordy's face turn even colder. She smiled faintly, "Don't get mad. Let's go
ahead." Jordy pressed his lips together and didn't say a word. Later, Angela's frantic voice rang out
again.
"No... that's not true."
"If it's what you thought, why should I be afraid? He came back, but when he saw me, he just went
away! Mom, he doesn't want to marry me at all!" Claude snapped, "What happened?"
Angela said, "He told me to leave! He doesn't like me at all. He is not going to marry me! But he made
his promise. What on earth is going on? Haven't he got over Gloria?"
"Nonsense. He never liked her." Martha sighed helplessly, "Angela, you got well too soon." Hearing
this, Gloria raised her eyebrows. She turned her eyes to look at Jordy carefully. Jordy's frown
deepened. Claude asked, "What do you mean?"
Martha said, "Angela recovered too quickly, and I wasn't sure whether it was good for her. She was
able to get up within a month... Even if modern medicine was developing quickly, it still sounded
unbelievable. You should have let him see how miserable you were when you were contined to bed."
The room seemed colder than an abyss filled with tons of ice. Gloria felt a chill run up her spine. There
was too much information to process. What would happen if Jordy believed it? Gloria began to look
forward to it. Gloria said nothing with a half-smile on her lips. Claude asked, "So what do we do now?"
Martha said, "Angela, I'm gonna send a group of people over there. When they get there, you go out
and pretend to look sad. By the way, call his mother five minutes before you go out. Say nothing but cry
on the phone, okay?"
Angela asked, "Mom, you mean...?"
"You're gonna have a relapse." Jordy's face was horribly puce with fury, while Gloria's smile broadened.
"Mr. Collins, do you think this recording is fake or not?" Jordy looked at her coldly and didn't say a
word. Gloria went on, "She pretended to have a relapse. You were like putty in her hands. Her whole
family played you for a tool."
Gloria chuckled, "I kind of feels sorry for you."
