Not to Take a Step Back
She was a bit confused to see Jonathan’s number on the screen.
“Mr. Brown?” she put it through and greeted him.
“Well, have you had breakfast?” asked Jonathan.
“Yes, why?”
“Where are you? I’ll come to you. We’ll talk about our project.”
Gloria was surprised. “You’re in San Diego?”
Jonathan pursed his lip and answered, “Yes.”
Gloria paused before saying, “I only have time this morning. After that, I’m not sure.”
“One morning would do. We could also have lunch together.”
“Send me where you are. I’ll go out for you.”
“Sending my address on your phone now.”
Gloria received Jonathan’s location, picked up her purse and headed out.
It was a club for rich people where Jonathan was in.
Gloria got there soon and was led to the box by a waiter, where Jonathan had been waiting for her.
Jonathan beamed at Gloria with undisguised admiration for her slender figure. “Have a seat, Miss
White.”
Gloria nodded and came over. “Sorry to keep you waiting,” she apologized.
Jonathan’s smile was as soft as ever. “I just got here, too.”
He poured Gloria a glass of red wine and said softly, “Have a taste of this famous local wine. It’s
excellent both in flavor and color.
Gloria sat across from him and took over the glass of wine.
She was not in a hurry to drink, but looked at him leisurely, “Is there anything else you wanna do
coming so far to San Diego?”
Jonathan rested his arm on the armrest of the sofa, his knuckles tapping on it.
There was no rhythm when he tapped the armrest, giving the atmosphere of the room an unspoken
tension.
His dark and sinister eyes became clear as he smiled, “Would you believe it if I tell you I come here to
San Diego just to see you?”
Gloria’s long, thick eyelashes quivered, and the next moment she said with a smile, “Does Mr. Brown
make jokes like that often?”
Jonathan raised his eyebrows and said somewhat seriously, “I am always serious when I am with you.”
Gloria did not interrupt him.
Then, in an even softer voice, he added, “I don’t even bother to talk with the others usually.”
Disgust flickered in Gloria’s eyes. She knew Jonathan was not a good joker but a big liar.
She smiled and did not want to continue the topic. “Mr. Brown, what’s your opinion on this
cooperation?”
Jonathan sighed and said, “It is a good project indeed, but there are conditions before you can get my
approval.”
Gloria stared seriously at him, her eyes twitching.
“Since it is your proposal, I want you to look to it carrying out with me. After all, it is a project costing
hundreds of billions of dollars. It is not a small number. I hope you can understand that,” Jonathan said
with a faint smile on his lips.
Gloria knew he was competing with Jordy. That was why he wanted her to be part of the project, too.
Jonathan pursued after seeing her silent response, ‘The project you brought up in a good one. In good
hands, it could bring me great rewards. But since it is your idea and inspiration, I think you could give
me a better result. I consider the investment from the angle as a merchant. As for the nuts and bolts,
they are all up to you.”
In other words, he was not to take a step back from this.
Gloria hesitated for a moment and said, “Following up this project would consume me so much time. It
is not just about one month or two. That’s not what I want at the first place.”
“I think you could wrap it up within three months, four months at most. To take back the White group is
gonna take you even longer, isn’t it? You should know the influence by getting the project done in time.
I bet you know better than anyone else how is it gonna facilitate your plan to take over the Whites. If
the project could be fulfilled perfectly, I would give you the credit and make your name known to all.
Isn’t it a fair deal to you?”
