Racked With Guilt
George was powerless to defend his client. All the evidence needed to be examined, which meant the
jury would not reach a verdict today.
The situation was not under his control. Anger was etched on his face.
Before George left the courtroom, he said to Brandon frostily, “I’ll no longer take your case.”
Brandon changed color and stammered, “George, please. I know what I did was wrong. You must help,
please!”
But George walked away without looking back.
George took two steps forward and saw Gloria talking with her friends. Nydia saw George and snorted
loudly.
“You won a lot of cases, but you lost this time. Don’t you feel like a loser, George?”
Every time Nydia saw George, she couldn’t help being sarcastic with him.
It was because he always took things from her.
George felt worse. He glanced at Nydia coldly, but as he tried to talk back, he suddenly recalled what
Carlos had said to him.
For a moment George became irritated. He looked away from Nydia and strode away.
Nydia didn’t know what he was thinking. She stared after him and sneered, “Gloria, thanks to you, I’m
so happy to see him flee after he lose the case.”
George and Nydia were always arguing, and he always shut her up like a clam.
Gloria only responded with a sinile.
Kristina smiled at Gloria and said, “Gloria, thank you so much. I will never forget your kindness. I owe
you big.”
Gloria chuckled and shook her head. “It’s the least I could do, Kristina. No big deal. Your ex-husband is
a tough nut to crack. Be careful.”
Kristina nodded. “I will. Don’t worry.”
After exchanging a few words, Kristina said goodbye to them.
Kristina’s ex-husband did not leave. He stared gloomily after Gloria and Kristina.
Soon, Gloria, Nydia, and Jennifer got in the car.
Nydia was in the driver’s seat, and Gloria and Jennifer were in the back seat.
Jennifer chuckled as an image of Gloria defending her client with a quick tongue flashed through her
mind.
“Before I knew you were a lawyer, I thought you were very reasonable. Now I feel very much the same.
If Bryson was there, he would be fascinated by you. After all, even I thought you were awesome in
court.” Jennifer admired Gloria from the bottom of her heart, and there was no hint of insincerity in her
voice.
Nydia, who was driving, talked about Bryson and then asked curiously, “Gloria, did Bryson call you after
what happened last time?”
Nydia referred to the accident where a bunch of thugs tried to sexually harass Gloria.
Jennifer subconsciously looked at Gloria. Jennifer hadn’t contacted Bryson since she told him how she
really felt about him.
Jennifer wanted to call Bryson, but she had no courage to do so. To keep her at a distance, Bryson
didn’t contact her either.
Gloria’s eyes flickered and she finally spoke softly, “Yes, he called me and said he was sorry. He was in
a meeting that day, and he didn’t know what happened to me. I could tell he was racked with guilt.”
