He Has Passed Away
Gloria sighed, “What happened between you and father?”
“It‘s quite annoying. He kept letting me go back and pestered me to stop hating her. He just kept
explaining to me but I think it was all excuses. My mother died because of him. I will never forgive him
for the rest of my life.”
Gloria‘s eyes flickered, looking at Nydia‘s stern face. Then Gloria said calmly, “You have to face it
sooner or later. And you may have some misunderstandings about many things. If you don‘t believe
him, why don‘t you find a way to look into what happened that year?”
Nydia gritted her teeth and said with anger, “I remembered back in those days, my mother jumped from
a building to kill herself in front of me. And it was because he was having an affair with another woman.
It was absolutely true. What‘s there to explain?”
She looked up into Gloria‘s eyes and continued, “This time, he imprisoned me home. I knew he wanted
me to forgive him. But even more, he wanted me to marry so that he could have connections. Why
should I listen to him? He is no longer a father to me. He has other children as well. He has a son and
a daughter with that woman. I mean, why doesn‘t he let the other daughter marry for him?”
After saying this, Nydia seemed to restrain herself and said helplessly, “Just look at me. I lost my
temper again. I just thought I could control my temper if I hadn‘t drunk.”
Gloria looked at her and said seriously, “No matter what happens, you should take care of yourself.
Because there are still many people who care about you.”
Nydia smiled, “Alright, I will. Thank you for being here to listen to my complaints.”
Seeing her bowl was still half full of food, she put down the bowl and dialed Ted.
Ted quickly answered the call, “Do you finally miss me, Nydia?”
“No, I miss you all the time. Uncle Ted, don‘t you doubt it.” Nydia produced a totally different mood on
the phone and spoke with composure.
Ted immediately laughed heartily, “My good girl, I know you well. I knew you must have something to
tell me this time. Just go ahead and tell me, I can do everything for you.”
Nydia smiled awkwardly and fawned, “Uncle Ted, are you free tonight? I want to visit you with a friend
of mine.”
“Yes, I am. Come tonight.”
“Okay, we‘ll be there in about forty minutes.”
“Okay. Don‘t rush. I will be home all the time.”
“Love you, Ted! I know you are the best person in the world.” Nydia said coquettishly.
“Oh come on. Alright, I‘m hanging up. I‘ll wait for you.”
“Thank you.”
Before hanging up, Nydia heard her uncle‘s voice coming from the receiver, “Go prepare some cakes
and fruit. My darling niece is coming.”
Nydia suddenly felt the warmth in her heart. She subconsciously sniffed her nose and hung up the
phone, deeply touched.
“Nydia.” There was a complicated look in Gloria‘s eyes.
“Yeah…” Nydia smiled, “Sometimes I wonder why I‘m not my uncle‘s daughter. Or otherwise I might
have a very happy life.”
Gloria looked at her with a serious face, “It all depends actually. Just look at me and you will think that
you are the luckier one. You have an uncle who loves you, but my father, the only person who loves me
has passed away.”
Nydia suddenly felt awfully sorry, “Sorry, I didn‘t mean to…”
“I know. I only mean that sometimes this is fate. You have to find a way to make yourself happy. That‘s
all. Just like what I did. Since I left Jordy, I think I could never feel happier.”
